Ruby server infrastructure evolution -> app. servers?
All, Just musing about this whole FastCGI thing (that I hadn''t even thought of since 1999 when looking at OpenMarket for a customer and even then it was "old"), and wondering when we might see projects/products that attempt to provide Ruby application services in a J2EE-like container. I see the Cerise project - any interesting information on that? I''m assuming

Tripplite Smart1500SLT configuration?
I'm read through the archives trying to figure out how to get a Tripplite SmartPro SLT 1500 configured with NUT using the USB interface (it also has a serial interface but I'd rather not). The thread which this link belonged to seemed most instructive: http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/nut-upsdev/2007-January/001656.html and I followed it as best I could. I'm running a

kernel 2.6.9-42 is faster
Gents, Under 4.3 and the associated kernel it took 17 seconds to recompile my entire application on my amd 4800+ X2. Down from 1 minute and 20 seconds on my old platform. I just tried under the new 2.6.9-42 kernel and it is 15 seconds. So that modification to the kernel for disk improvement seemed to help my compile time... Just sharing... Great work on 4.4. Jerry

Need Internet Explorer 6 or 7
I work for the state of Idaho and all of our paystubs and other important employee documents and other information are all online. The problem is that they are only accessible using Internet Explorer - and I am a Mac user. Yes, I've contacted them, many times - many levels, and just hit a brick wall each time. The website states: The State Controller's Office currently supports

graphical interface
Dear R users,, I'm having difficulties when i use the gstat extensions in R especially with the graphical interface, as the variograms plots are depicted with gray background and cyan points for the number of pairs, Consequently the fitted variogram is drawn in cyan, How can i change that so i could have, white background and black lines for the fitted variogram, for the complete plot.

question about SVM in e1071
Hi, I have a question about the parameter C (cost) in svm function in e1071. I thought larger C is prone to overfitting than smaller C, and hence leads to more support vectors. However, using the Wisconsin breast cancer example on the link: http://planatscher.net/svmtut/svmtut.html I found that the largest cost have fewest support vectors, which is contrary to what I think. please see the scripts

Samba 3.0.0 PDC, XP SP1, and domain joining woes.
...ons it, except when talking about Microsoft's AD-capable servers. So I'm a bit lost. I don't suppose anyone could suggest any potential remedies? It strikes me that something else is going on beyond the obvious, but I can't figure it out. Help most gratefully received (cries of hallelujahs etc). -- Nick Maynard nick.maynard@tastycake.net

Yet another "NameError: uninitialized constant" problem
I''ve searched for information about this and compared what I have to the solutions I can find, here and elsewhere. I found some good and useful information, yet my stuff still doesn''t work. I was hoping somebody here could spot something. I''m using rails 2.1.2 and I''m pretty new to ruby and rails. My goal is a fairly simple many-to-many relationship linking

Well, despite the hype from Wall St., Bay St. and The City, a large number of organisations in the world run on software that is decades old and cannot be economically replaced. In many instances

Blind transfers being cancelled by asterisk & hanging up on remote caller
Hello all, I have a system running AsteriskNOW with asterisk asterisk-1.8.8.1-1_centos5 from AsteriskNOW repository. I just changed our Polycom 335 sip.conf so that blindpreferred=1 (all transfers default as blind transfers). If a customer calls in & we answer & transfer, everything works fine. But if we call out to a customer & then transfer to another internal extension, that

Ready to call this a bug
I''ve been trying to get a handle on AJAX today and am ready to call "BUG!" I started with the code from Curt''s "AJAX on Rails". It used <ul="my_list"> and <li> and worked fine. Except I need a table instead of a list. So I did the simplest thing that I thought could possibly work. In the view, I changed the :position attribute from

Pluralized Controller Names?
If I do: script/generate controller Photo I get a controller named photo_controller. OTOH, if I do: script/generate scaffold Photo I get a controller named photos_controller. (Note that the controller name is pluralized). I realize that I''m specifying the controller name explicitly in the first case, but it seems odd to me that the scaffold command generates a pluralized

Hey so, People are asking about Mongrel Ruby 1.9 compatibility. Isn''t the point of 1.9 for library developers to have time to get ready for 2.0? It''s not like 1.9 is a production release. Evan -- Evan Weaver Cloudburst, LLC
