3.4p1 Error on Tru64 Unix - cannot set login uid
Hi,
I have recently loaded Openssh 3.4p1 on an Tru64 Unix 5.1A system.
I followed the installation instructions described in INSTALL, essentially
using all default settings, and it went throught without any obvious errors.
I can then use the root account to initiate outbound and inbound ssh calls,
and can log on without any problems.
The trouble is that when I try to use ssh to log in (from a

FARFON lives!
Some of you have been following our progress on
http://farfon.convergence.com.pk as we blundered our way through the
development of a low-cost ethernet IP phone that does IAX and augments the

With help from the denizens of #asterisk and kind words of advice from Mr.

How to fixup source paths during objdump disassembly?
Hi folks,
As part of our build, the Tock project uses remap-path-prefix [1] to create
a reproducible build. This means that the paths inside of built artifacts
are not full source paths. When we later attempt to produce a listings
file, the source mapping fails. The result is many copies of this recently
merged warning [2]:

PermitRootLogin=without-password as default
Hi,
Ever since 'without-password' became an option, I've thought it would
make a better default (and I actually used to patch it that way when I
was the Debian Maintainer. My successors think that it's more important
to minimise the size of the patch, which is also a reasonable point).
The thing that prompted me to finally mention this here, is this story:

Authentication problem with samba 2.2.5
We have started to upgrade or Unix servers from Samba 2.0.7 to Samba 2.2.5.
I did one machine as test and all worked fine. Today I tried adding two
more today and both come up with the "Incorrect password or unknown
username" box in Windows Explorer. All the Unix servers are running Solaris
7. I did the make on an NFS file system once and then ran 'make install' on

Rsync windows vista permissions problems
I am using deltacopy (uses rsync) to backup up a drive in windows vista to a
freenas server. Before moving to vista, had the system working fine (on a
windows xp machine).
The command used for the backup is:
rsync.exe -v -rlt -z --delete "/cygdrive/F/TXT/" "nas::160d/_Acer_F/TXT/"
As a result of this command, rsync should create a dir (not on nas) and then
copy some files

Is there a way to know the target's L1 data cache line size?
Hi everyone,
I'm hailing from the Rust community, where there is a discussion about
adding facilities for aligning data on an L1 cache line boundary. One
example of situation where this is useful is when building thread
synchronization primitives, where avoiding false sharing can be a
critical concern.
Now, when it co...

So what exact dB value does flac use? mp3gain + 6 dB are 95 dB IIRC.
I tried to apply mp3gain -m 6 to my mp3s,

Group Policy
I hope I don't get a ton of flames for this but I am wondering if anyone
knows a way to migrate a samba 3 controlled domain to an Windows based
Active Directory domain. Let me explain why.
I want to continue to use samba as my file and print servers but I
really need the ability to use Group Policies. As far as I know there
is no way to do this without ADS. I would like to have a Windows

Sharing files/directories with colons in name
Hail SAMBA folks,
I'm having a little difficulty trying to share files and directories that
contain a colon in the filename. With a fairly simple configuration,
everything works as expected sans the colon problem.
On the client end (in my case, Windows 2000 SP2) I get somewhat
unpredictable behaviour. In every case the file (or directory) name gets
mangled in an unfriendly way. For

Problems with gain
Hello.
I have a problem here with replay gain. I use it to be able to hear all
my music without any difference in volume. But it seems that all players
I use ignore the gain value stored in my flac files. All flacs are
louder than the gained mp3s I have.
$ metaflac --show-tag=REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_GAIN <some>.flac
