Youtube Video
Hi there, I've created a litle video explaining on how to setup some group policy to redirect folders using Active Directory Tools and Group Policy Management tools, it works and I've tested it so i decided to include it on my small youtube Linux collection. Hope you enjoy it and like; might be it can make it to the wiki video library. Thanks for Samba 4, it really _IS_ the thing.

Problem with non-ascii characters in forms: "incompatible character encodings: UTF-8 and ASCII-8BIT"
Hi First off, I''m using Ruby 1.9.1p378 and Rails 2.3.8. I was creating a minimal application to test handling of Norwegian special characters when I bumped into this strange problem... I have a simple Car model with fields maker:string and model:string. For the controller I planned to just have an index action do all the work: class CarsController < ApplicationController def index

belongs_to relation busted....why?
Ok, been banging my head on this and just can''t figure it. Normally, any table that has a belongs_to to another table you can easily access it by: table1.table2.field And it works perfectly for one table I have. Let''s call it... tags. So, I''ve got: Tag -> has_many :blah_tags Blah -> has_many :blah_tags Blah_tag -> belongs_to :tag, belongs_to :blah Ok, works

AJAX for sale!
Thought I would share this with you guys, it brought a smile to my face this morning... So, I work for a quick American company who I won''t name, and for the past few months I have been pushing to use AJAX in some of our Web applications. This looks like its finally happening, and we are using it in an upcoming project. There was a meeting about it yesterday, which unfortunately I

SXSWi
Hey all, I apologize if I''ve missed discussion of this, but I assume there are a decent number of people going to SXSWi this weekend. I know there is the Austin on Rails meeting (http://austinonrails.org/) setup. Any other intersting Rails-related events/panels? Anyone want to swap "Panels I Intend to Go To" lists? Anyone want to beat up some PHP/ASP/JSP nerds? Just

Toll Call Voicemail Ring Timeout (new module????)
Remember in the good ol days when answering machines were smart enough to know when there was a message on the machine, and it would pick up after 2 rings rather than 4? (that is, if you knew how to turn it on - that required to know how to set the time on your VCR to avoid the flashing 12:00:00) Hahaha. Jokes aside. I have come up with a way to do this but it's a kludge: 1 - Read in the variables (normal_ring_timeout) 2 - HasVoiceMail_Timeout 3 - run HasVoicemail 4 - If not have voicemail set ring_timeout = normal_ring_timeout 5 - If Have voicemail - it's jumps to priority + 101 6 - Set...

Samba BDC in a subnet of a Windows NT4.0 domain?
...flaws that wouldn't allow for this) I'm not asking for a big walk through on every little step to configure samba, i'm asking which modules/files would best fill the role. Samba 2.2.7a --with PAM? Should LDAP be used? etc. also, i stumbled across this on microsofts site by accident (hahaha!) http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324542 <http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324542> - is this something that could work/should be used? php-pear missing from 5.8 (i386) metadata?
Hi, # yum install php-pear <snip> No package php-pear available. Nothing to do This is on CentOS 5.8 (i386). The package is available for both archs on the two mirrors I checked. I also tried a # yum clean headers # yum clean metadata # yum clean dbcache to no avail. Am I missing something or is it the metadata? [LLVMdev] MC-JIT Design
...limit its format to supporting that, but the hardware itself supports many more implementation approaches. -- I apologize if my description is a bit terse, but I hope the basic infrastructure comes through. I will make some pretty diagrams for it at some point (hopefully before the next dev mtg, hahaha hmmm....). Here are the reasons I want to follow approach #2: 1. It makes the JIT process look much more like the standard compilation process. In fact, from the FOOJIT's perspective, it could even run the compiler out of process to produce "FOO" object files, with no real change in...

They''re attached to an ARC-1280ML, a reasonably good SATA controller, which has 1 GB of ECC DDR2 for caching purposes. The machine this is all inside of is backed by an nForce 4 chipset [hahaha], with a dual-core 1.8 GHz Opteron and 4 GB of ECC RAM onboard. No swap is enabled. I''m running snv_112. I expect to get very nice performance out of the above configuration, both locally and remotely. And I do, sometimes. I get ~70 MB/s sustained random reads and something to the tune o...
