Known hosts and dynamic IP addresses
...rtunately, the "Known Hosts" mechanism doesn't work for
these machines: Since the entry is made for the IP address,
there's a new entry every time the address changes.
Therefore, an option should be invented which allows to
store the host key under the DNS name only.

Shortcomings of Maildir++ layout
...-> ~/mail/abc
abc/def -> ~/mail/abc.dir/def or ~/mail/___abc___/def
which would make all that trouble with .subscriptions and .index much
more easier. In my eyes the Maildir++ layout is overcomplicated because
of the heap of workarounds to the self-created problems.

Shortcomings of Maildir++ layout
...les from particular
folder, since not in distinct folder (and thus not mbox-design).
Even worse, both folders foo/bar and foo.bar both get the filename
.foo.bar
Maildir++-setup is broken by design in several ways.
That's the problem with Maildir++. Appending smileys doesn't help.

[Bug 3648] New: ssh client blocks itself by leaving unix domain socket alive after user
...live after user
Product: Portable OpenSSH
Version: 9.3p1
Hardware: Other
OS: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P5
Component: ssh
Assignee: unassigned-bugs at mindrot.org
Reporter: hadmut at danisch.de
Hi,
I'm using Ubuntu Linux (client 23.10, server 22.04) and want to use
port forwarding to connect a unix domain socket from client do server.
When using something like
LocalForward /tmp/TEST /tmp/TEST
it works as expected. For testing, run
nc -v -l -U /tmp/...

dovecot + LDAP-SASL ?
...DAP.
Which means that dovecot performs the SASL methods itself and stores the
plaintext secret on LDAP.
But it is also possible to have the LDAP do the SASL work and dovecot just
pass SASL messages through? Even when the LDAP server uses a proprietary
SASL method not supported by dovecot?

Getting the SMTP envelope through IMAP?
...port
transmission of that SMTP envelope data in either way, but confusingly
uses the term ?envelope? for a structure describing the RFC822 mail header.
My question is, whether there is any way to retrieve the SMTP envelope
through dovecot's IMAP anyway, maybe through some extension.

rsync feature suggestion
...alternative method would be to keep the recursive method, but
to open a pipe to an external program. Before downloading a
file, the path is printed to the pipe and an answer is read
from the pipe. Thus, an external filter program can decide for
each single file whether to copy it or not.

Dovecot LDAP schema?
...schema or should I create my own one?
(I want to provide IMAP boxes for virtual users that do not have a
Unix account on the mail server and thus do not want to use the
plain uid/gid entries of the posix account objectclass to avoid confusion
and accidently giving access to accounts.)

Proposal: RSS-Feed
Hi,
dovecot provides POP and IMAP services.
Proposal:
Would be nice if it also could offer an RSS-Feed for a mailbox,
giving a summery of sender/subject/date and maybe the first lines
of text.

Migrating NT4->Samba3: Found bogus group member...
...) I had to deal with groups in /etc/group, LDAP
posix groups, Samba groups etc.
Is there anywhere a precise description about how things belong
together and which groups and contents are required? It is sort of
difficult to debug if it not obvious how the data structures should
look like.

Could not find a valid gem 'activerecord-mysql-adapter' (>= 0) in any repository
...sql-adapter'' (>= 0)
in any repository
it''s not even listed on rubygems.org.
How would I get this running?
(And why is rails distributed over such an unreliable distribution way
like gems? Why can''t it come as a regular bundle just like any other
software?)

Trouble with Ubuntu 15.10 / syslinux 6.03
...config file)), while on 15.10 with syslinux 6.03 it creates
a USB device that can't boot, it just brings the lines
SYSLINUX 6.03 EDD 20150813 Copyright...
Boot error
What has changed between syslinux 6.03 and the older version in Ubuntu
14.04, that causes this different behaviour?

dovecot + LDAP + SASL?
...eps internally.
I need to support proprietary SASL mechanisms built into an LDAP
server, which are not based on just a single password.
So is there a way to configure dovecot to just pass SASL through to
LDAP, allowing the IMAP client to talk SASL with the LDAP server
through dovecot?

Seen this behavior before?
...ithout any problem (debian unstable), I now sometimes
experience that the IMAP-connection hangs and thunderbird waits
forever when accessing a folder. I did not yet analyze the problem and
I am not sure whether it is a thunderbird or a dovecot problem.
Did anyone see this behavior before?

Different passwords for different IP-Addresses/protocols?
...IMAP server, avaible
- at localhost 127.0.0.1 without SSL for local clients and
web based applications such as squirrelmail
- from outside with SSL for mobile users
but - for security reasons - would like to use different passwords
on both ports.
How could I achieve that?

Host verification problem
...ess but not the port to verify the peer
host, ssh always blocks/warns when connecting to a different port
since it detects a changed host key. This means to edit the host key
file every time or to ommit host key validation.
Please store the host keys based on hostname/IP and port number.

scp and IPv6 address?
...)
works, while
scp root at 2002:1234::1:/etc/motd .
works not, scp parses this as hostname 2002 and file path
1234::1:/etc/motd
It's a syntax problem.
The manpage addresses this problem for -L and -R arguments, but not
for scp arguments. Any idea how to deal with this problem?

unencrypted. It causes a lot of trouble and headache.
Please add a configuration variable to configure, whether %c should
