[patch] kbuild: build all targets in gzip
The gzip program had a few aliases - using ln to reach them.
Build these.
Also introduce gzip.stripped since it was present in the original
Makefile.
To support this a few new rules was added to scripts/Kbuild.klibc

[PATCH nbdkit] New filter: gzip
Turn the existing nbdkit-gzip-plugin into a filter so it can be
applied on top of files or other sources:
nbdkit file --filter=gzip file.gz
nbdkit curl --filter=gzip https://example.com/disk.gz
Because of the nature of the gzip format which is not blocked based
and thus not seekable, this filter caches the whole uncompressed file
in a hidden temporary file. This is required in order to

R v1.9.0 alpha w/ Rtools: gzip problem
Hi, Gordon Smyth brought the following problem to my attention.
PROBLEM/"BUG":
Using R v1.9.0 alpha for Windows and the latest Rtools from Brian
Ripley you get the following problem trying to R CMD build a package
(or a bundle);
>R CMD build R.basic

* preparing 'R.basic':

[LLVMdev] specint2000 as external tests
Hi Duncan,
Do you have sources also in
the $LLVM_SRC_ROOT/projects/test-suite/External/SPEC/CINT2000/164.gzip?
The following is content of above directory in my case. I have copied the
CINT2000 sources in this directory manually.
$ls -1 $LLVM_SRC_ROOT/projects/test-suite/External/SPEC/CINT2000/164.gzip

Problem when trying to install packages
Dear Rui;
Many thanks for your reply. I have installed Rtools (rtools43-5958-5975) on
my PC and I have R version 4.3.3 and 4.3.2 to install. Also I have
installed Rstudio through Anaconda Navigator.
But I do not know how to use Rtools for installing the R packages. I would
be more than happy if you help me.
Sincerely yours

Problem when trying to install packages
Though Navigator may mess up any Rtools stuff because it handles the
directory trees where packages and dependencies are located, does it not?
If so, maybe just reinstall RStudio directly from its website to proceed.
Just a guess obviously.

Problem when trying to install packages
Dear all;
I found a useful video on youtube that has explained how to install Rtools.
I followed the instructions and the problem was solved.

#RTools #RStudio #DataScience) - YouTube

anyone know anything about using mod_deflate gzipping with Rails?
Anyone know anything about using mod_deflate gzipping with Rails? I''ve
got it enabled in our .htaccess but it doesn''t seem to handle gzip
anything going through Rails. Any ideas?
Thanks

gzip-rsyncable.diff
Hi,
I currently create large (500MB-2.5GB) tar.gz files that I am trying to
get to rsync better. After doing some research by reading a lecture
presented by the original author of rsync and googling the list
archives, I have concluded that the gzip-rsyncable.diff is the best way
to get gzipped files to rsync nicely. The only version I could find of
this patch is available here:

[PATCH klibc] gzip: Fix silent fallback to decompression
If the gzip utilities are built without support for compression,
they will always attempt to carry out decompression even if the
command name and options don't imply that. Instead they should
fail with an explicit error in this case.

equivalence of gzipped and non-gzipped files?
I'm trying to get a backup system going using rsync --- bit of a newbie.
Just wondering if there is a way I can get rsync to recognise that a
non-gzipped file in one directory tree is equivalent to the same gzipped file
in the (say backup) tree, or vice versa. Could this be done with the
include/exclude features? I note that gzip doesn't alter the timestamp on a
file when it zips
