PAE and gvinum
Hi all,
I got a machine with 8GB of RAM and plenty of disk space. I need gvinum to
manage big number of file systems but PAE enabled kernel does not compile
modules. I couldn't figure out how to get vinum statically compiled in the
kernel if that is the way to go. I am running 6-STABLE.
Please advise on how to get PAE kernel and gvinum working together!
TIA,
Stoyan

Panics with md/gvinum/ufs
Hi,
I've done some strange(?) experiments and I managed to get
a panic of type "baddir" and just now another one that only
rebooted my system instantly without writing a vmcore.
I don't know if this is important. I could not find any
information on how gvinum detects failed hard disks.
That's why I tried something really simple.
Steps to reproduce:
1)
dd if=/dev/zero of=a bs=1024 count=256000
dd if=/dev/zero of=b bs=1024 count=256000
dd if=/dev/zero of=c bs=1024 count=256000
2)
mdconfig -a -t vnode -u 0 -f a
mdconfig -a -t vnode -u 1 -f b

Failure of gvinum after panic
Hi all,
I have some problems with my gvinum setup after the system panic'ed.
Afterwards the system fails finding the plexes to the subdisks (or at
least that is what I can understand after having searched the gvinum
source code for the error string in the DMESG log..)
The machine is an IBM Netfinity 5000 and the internal HW self tests

[SO]HO Software RAID5 server: which implementation should I choice?
...but speeds about 12-15Mb/s is not enough for sure :)
Only problem I see: which software RAID5 solution should I prefer?
FreeBSD-based, of course!
I see these variants:
(1) FreeBSD 6(7?) + graid3. Slow, one disk for checksums is bottleneck,
as far as I understand.
(2) FreeBSD 6(7?) + gvinum/radi5. Is it stable enough?! Is it complete?
when I try it about 6 months ago in VMWare installation with 5
virtual disks, I got panics and strange behaviour after "crashing"
one of virtual disks.
(3) FreeBSD 6(7?) + graid5. Again, is it stable enough? There are
