gvim current directory
When I gvim a file from gnome, gvim's working directory is always my home directory. That is not what I want. It is inconvenient for :vi , :r and :w something.else . Is there a way to automatically cause gvim's current directory to be the directory of the edited file? I am aware of workarounds involvin...

No matter what I do I can't get? gvim to open in a reasonable size. I have a dual headed setup (laptop + external) and every time gvim opens it takes up both screens. I've tried a few suggestions including the one below without success.? In fact this one causes X to crash when I start gvim. The second problem I have is the sel...

Problems with gvim 7.4 under CentOS6.5
Compiling vim 7.4 as described by vim works fine, but calling gvim/vim results in a segmentation fault in CentOS6.5. Debugging with gdb points to a problem with strncmp(). Even compiling gvim 7.3 does not work. How to resolve this issue? Would be great if somebody could help. Thanks Christoph

R and vim (gvim) on ubuntu
Dear all - I do fret this to be a revealing beginner question - fortunately, this mailing list have been good to me in the paste .-) I am looking for a good R editor/environment in ubuntu. To that end, I have decided to dive into gvim as the modality offered here seems to make sense for editing. I want to use Johannes Ranke's vim r-plugin, but I can't make it work. I have the plugin installed, and this confirmed "vim-addons" I set the new file to r :"set ft=r" I open a terminal and start R "R&q...

gcc editor for newbie (Emacs or vim or ?)
I downloaded the .pdf version of "Thinking in C++" and I've begun to read that and I did yum groupinstall 'Development Tools' I'm a Newbie Desktop user, jumping into the deep end of the pool. Should I try to learn vi (Vim) (which obviously will help me, if I ever need to administer a remote box) or install Emacs or something else, for the gcc editor? An easy learning

Xen and CUDA Virtualization
Hello, I am new to Xen and I have class project to develop in Virtualization course. One of these projects in about nVidia CUDA Virtualization. As far as I understand from the architecuture of Xen, for virtualizing CUDA on Xen, I will have to prepare a back-end (for Dom 0) and front-end (for Dom U) drivers for CUDA. Is this right? Also, from where can we get the source code of latest nVidia

Gnome desktop, workspaces and windows
I was editing a file in gvim when I inadvertently pressed some key combination that caused the vim window to disappear from the desktop. I looked in ps and found that it was still running. Checking the tool bar at the bottom of my display I noticed that a large rectangle now occupied the second of four boxes on the extreme ri...

Strange alterations to vim and related packages on KVM host
...ions. This is not meant to be a security check. It is simply a way for me to easily recover from fumble fingered configuration changes. Yesterday git status reported that the following files had changed since the previous commit: # modified: ../usr/bin/gdb # modified: ../usr/bin/gvim # modified: ../usr/bin/vim I therefore reinstalled these three packages using yum reinstall and committed the change to git. commit b87a8b2116ef22cc013fd5dc6f525d672d52570a Author: sysadmin.root.vhost01.hamilton <sysadmin.root.vhost01.hamilton at harte-lyn Date: Tue Jul 3 16:22:34 20...

Strange locking behaviour upsets Apache
...he developers. This problem arose following our upgrade from Debian/Sarge to Debian/Etch, without changing smb.conf. The problem is limited to staff using the Visual Slick Edit editor (which may indeed be the source of the problem, but I want to understand what Samba is doing). Staff using, say, gVim are unaffected. I've read the changelog for Samba for the versions between the Debian/Sarge release and that for Debian/Etch and I don't see anything which relates to locking behaviour. The Samba configuration for the share on which the files in question reside contains no lock-related pa...

Need some help with pure Ruby win32-changenotify
Hi all, I know it''s deprecated, but people seem to still be using win32-changenotify, so I thought I''d see if I could make it pure Ruby. Also, I thought it would be a good opportunity to test passing a custom Win32::Event object. I''m mostly done I think, but I''m having trouble unraveling the FILE_NOTIFY_INFORMATION struct buffer. Re: Latest version of kate editor
...s its own trouble, even upstream, and for RedHat / Fedora packagers KDE seems a clear second or third choice to work on. The Gnome upgrade from Centos 7.1 to 7.2 was "urgs" and has driven me to switch to XFCE even @work, where I had to ask the sys-admins for allowance beforehand. vim / gvim / jedit Vim and its graphical frontend gvim are in use for nearly all my tasks as text-editors. A special place in my heart has (g)vimdiff which is a great help im my daily work (shell-scripts, php, css, html, js, and markdown make most the volume) The availability of a very powerfull text editor...

Weird, sudden 3.4 problem.
..." shares are acting strange. I can create new folders, I can create new documents. However, any attempt to rename the newly created file gives me access denied problems. I can edit and save the file if it's text, from notepad, but Word and Excel documents fail to save with access denied. GVIM has no problems creating backup files, Word creates tmp files ok. Other, non-home shares are working as expected. I did restart samba, reboot the server, restart the win 7 clients, no change. This has worked for more than 2 years. Suggestions? Thanks! -- Don Krause

Not to mention the bloat (and other problems), there are tools specifically designed for that (with much more appropriate features). Everything from small and simple (PFE) to medium with more features (gvim), included color-coded syntax highlighting, to something that does more than I'll ever need, like emacs, or if you must spend money, SlickEdit. > Why buying or downloading additional software if it is not really > necessary.
