Problems with getty and X on runlevel switch [Was: Re: The future of centos]
...topic, does anyone else find that CentOS6 desktop stability is lacking? Or did we just never notice because no monitoring was in place pre-C6? I'm refering to abrtd which is sending out a susprising amount of notifications about crashing desktop components like nautilus gthumb gnome-panel gvfsd-trash gvfsd-metadata gnome-settings-daemon, to name just a few.

9.2 PRERELEASE (today) / amd64 Hello, I'm seeing a panic while trying to build a poudriere repository. As far I can see it always happens when gam_server is started (ie xfce is running) and under disk load (poudriere bulk build) : (That is something new, the box was pretty stable) the complete crash dump (core.0.txt) is here: http://user.lamaiziere.net/patrick/panic_gam_server.txt Fatal

Samba protocol version in libsmbclient
Hi, What determines the protocol version that libsmbclient uses? Changing min and max protocol version in the client smb.conf seems to have no effect. I'm chasing up the performance issues I posted about earlier which may be caused by my Linux clients defaulting to SMB1 (via gvfsd-smb) while Windows happily negotiates SMB2 with the servers. If I restrict the servers to SMB2, gvfs can't connect, while smbclient on the console works fine if I pass -mSMB2. I can't see anything in https://git.gnome.org/browse/gvfs/tree/daemon/gvfsbackendsmb.c that would restrict the pr...

SaMBa 4.16.4 adds users to ACLs as groups
...I observed something horrible: Windows Word (or MS Office in general) somehow manages to chown every saved file to the acting user, putting the original owner to a POSIX ACL. It means that slowly every user ever editing that document will be accumulated in its POSIX ACL. Not only MS Office, but the gvfsd-fuse backend of KDE does some horror: It also manages to chown a file it has write access to only via the "other (users)" POSIX bits, but the instead of adding users to the POSIX ACL, it removes the access from the "other (users)" bits. OK, let's assume it's not a bug,...

zfs inotify?
OK, so this may be a little off-topic, but here goes: The reason I switched to OpenSolaris was primarily to take advantage of ZFS''s features when storing my digital imaging collection. I switched from a pretty stock Linux setup, but it left me at one disadvantage. I had been using inotify under Linux to trigger a series of Ruby scripts that would do all the basic ingestion/setup for
