Loading syslinux.efi from preloader.efi
Hello everyone,
I am trying to prepare a UEFI bootable thumb drive using syslinux and
Linux foundations PreLoader.efi. I started the same as as it works with
gummiboot-42:
* Copy PRELOADER.EFI to EFI/BOOT/BOOTX64.EFI
* Copy HASHTOOL.EFI to EFI/BOOT/BOOTX64.EFI
* Copy gummibootx64.efi to EFI/BOOT/LOADER.EFI
With just those files PreLoader asks to enroll gummiboot's hash. I do so
and end up in gummiboot's menu.
Copying the EFI64 syslinux.efi (from...

Yes, Solus ISOs.
They are built mostly by this script:

I am not an syslinux/efi expert but for me it looks like syslinux can
be perfectly fine using system gnu-efi library. For example in Linux
Arch both refind and gummiboot use the system library and never had
problems with it.

Changes to get CD to boot on EFI System.
...#39;t tell it can't be done to those actually doing it
So you know how to boot from CD via EFI by SYSLINUX software ?
(Without putting a whole Linux into the boot image file, that is.)
Can you share the URL of such an ISO ?

Some (U)EFI questions
Hi everyone,
for UEFI bootable media I currently use preloader+gummiboot while on
BIOS media I use isolinux/extlinux. Since maintaining two configurations
is some kind of extra work, I plan switching to syslinux in the next
weeks or months. Creating an UEFI boot partition or El-Torito image
seems easy: Use preloader, hashtool and the syslinux efi file, copy them
to...

I have not looked into it all that much. But seems that UEFI basically
allows booting without a bootloader.
Here is some gentoo wiki info in it:

And Greg Kroah-Hartman talking about it a bit:
http://kroah.com/log/blog/2013/09/02/booting-a-self-signed-linux-kernel/
I am looking forward to making a little HOWTO, for this subject and also

isohybrid --uefi - resulting EF00 partition too small
Hello everyone,
I am maintaining a distribution loosely based on LFS and am now trying
to add UEFI support. Integrating a FAT formatted partition image
containing, preloader, gummiboot, kernel and initramfs correctly results
in a ISO image that is bootable on BIOS and UEFI systems if booted from
the optical drive.
However, when I run
isohybrid --uefi name-of.iso
the resulting GPT entry for the EF00 partition is just 19MB. It should
be around 53MB:

Same kernel command line currently works with grub-2.00 from efi booting

also from gummiboot-32 from same usb flashdrive.
Hardware I am using is:
Asus Sabertooth 990FX w/ revision 1604 firmware.
This was the mail I was composing before the release of yesterdays

was a kernel panic due to no root file system. My assump...

Looks like I would have to prepare separate boot images bay trail/clover
trail or continue using gummiboot for 32 bit UEFI in the mid term.

It does. In fact I usually use preloader.efi (with keytool.efi and
hashtool.efi for secure boot) and gummiboot.x64.efi to boot EFI stub
kernels on x86_64. But until short time a go I had no idea someone would
try to sell 32 bit UEFI on computers with 64 bit processors.

It would be helpful for a neutral description in the isohybrid wiki
if it was not only GRUB2 that can be shown as tested.
Have a nice day :)

That _seems_ to be no longer accurate. The official 6.03 release
(2014Oct06) was built based on the gnu-efi commit:
ab54e2b40e914d0ca01dc3d44c8d4eb8517bf999 from 2014Feb13.
At the time Syslinux 6.03 was released, the build was no longer using a
"bleeding edge" commit of gnu-efi (it was

Changes to get CD to boot on EFI System.
I've been the maintainer of the G4L project since 2004, and have had great
success using syslinux, but yesterday I ran into a machine that would not
boot from the CD. The system system was a Lenovo L540 notebook, and it
seems to use EFI? Disabled the Secure EFI, but it still would not boot.
Comes up with the syslinux menu and seems to load the kernel, but then it
just stops. Never shows

/boot as a btrfs subvolume
As of the latest updates to anaconda and grub2 for Fedora 18, it is now
possible to install with /boot as a btrfs subvolume. The way that grub2
is handling this is the "reach down" to the files it needs as if the
subvolume was a directory.
Is this OK?
At this point I am not worried about snapshots or any other
complexities. If the subvolume name is known. should grub2 be able to
