Testing of Merged GT3b1 and 1.0.1 oggenc
Hi everyone,
Recently I made an attempt at merging the tunings of GT3b1 into the
official Xiph.org 1.0.1 libvorbis code. While 99% of the GT3b1 tunings
are independent of 1.0.1, there is one particular value
(_psy_noiseguards) which affects the whole quality range. I've chosen
to use the 1.0.1 values since they changed since 1.0. Therefore, files
encoded i...

I remember hearing that there was a sound quality issue which boosted high
frequencies by 1 or 2dB in Vorbis files at less than q6 or so. Does anyone
know if this still the case?

Patches for advanced encode option to change impulse
...ode-option that allows the user to change
the global mapping value for the particular quality value they encode
at. The option is called "impulse_trigger_profile" and can take on
values of 0 to 6, where 0 to 4 are the default _psy_global_44 values
while 5 and 6 are basically 3 and 4 from GT3b1. Basically using a
higher number makes Vorbis switch to short blocks more often in order to
reduce a smearing noise that occurs at mid q on microattack samples like
the Originalsmall.flac sample at HA.org. Vorbis isn't switching to
short blocks enough on these samples so 'upping' the...

Ogg streaming on low bandwidth
Hi,
Was wondering if any gurus could tell me if it is possible to stream Ogg on very low bandwidth links (for example satellite phone) where the expected bandwidth would almost certainly be less than 19Kbps, and probably more like 10Kbps.
I am not after great audio at this bitrate, mono with an audio bandwidth less than 5KHz. I have done some testing (not streaming though) listening to 8Kbps MP3
