Authentication Problems
...is password was no longer working in the first place? Secondly; Why I can't reset it? Googling around many people suggest there is a discrepancy between the /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow files and by deleting /etc/shadow and using pwconv to recreate shadow and the same for /etc/groups, deleting gshadow recreating it with grpconv will solve the problem but I still can't login as the web dev user. Any ideas anyone? -- James. http://www.jamesbensley.co.cc/ There are 10 kinds of people in the world; Those who understand Vigesimal, and J others...? -------------- next part -------------- An HT...

preparing to migrating to new system
hi all, I will be migrating my mail server from centos 4.8 to 6 when its released. Basically its just a number of users with their passwords. Their mail is downloaded to their clients and not stored on the server. What is the most sensible or correct way to migrate ALL the users to the new system? Way in the past is was just perhaps copy the /etc/passwd file but I know thats not the case

samba users at boot, the same local and samba user bug has gone

Migrating, Upgrading & Testing Samba 4 PDC/BDC
...DC that were set up before my time. However, I'm trying to accomplish a little bit more to give myself, the sysadmin, a little bit more automation capability: · Migrate the PDC and BDC both to new servers (part of this I've already done with copying /etc/passwd, group, shadow, and gshadow along with smb.conf, secrets.tdb and passwd.tdb. There is no LDAP and/or Kerberos configuration). · Upgrade the PDC and BDC to AD Controllers that will work in redundancy. · Updating our netlogon script to mount Samba shares based on the user logging in. o Part of this is getti...

Samba upgrade on dedrat linux
...the SID (on old versions it was just MACHINE.SID but I believe you do this via smbpasswd now)? And how would I restore it again after reinstalling? 4) Would my smb.conf still work without changes? It's not a DC, just a member server but I've got a script that copies passwd, group, shadow, gshadow and smbpasswd accross from their pdc every 30min - would this still be ok? Any other pointers would be appreciated. Andr? de Koning IT Manager (Chief computer mechanic) Softline VIP Payroll Tel: +27 12 420 7000 andre@vippayroll.co.za
