Two-way linear model with interaction but without one main effect
...is imaginary example (not homework, just a silly made-up case for illustrating the rare situation): I'm measuring the energy absorption of sports footwear in jumping. I have three models (S1, S2, S3), that are known by their having the same average value of this variable for different types of ground, but I want to model the energy absorption for specific ground types (grass, sand, and pavement). To fit the model I take 90 independent measures (different shoes, different users for each observation), with 10 samples per footwear model and ground type. # Example data: shoe <- gl(3,30,labels=...

Fw: Digium FXO Interfaces don't support groundstart???
A thought occurred to me to on how to further quantify the impact of "glare" on a properly dimensioned trunk group and debunk the ground start glare concern. A cursory traffic analysis clarifies: 1. Assume you have a two-way trunk group, dimensioned for average busy hour, average busy season for P01 grade of service, Erlang B or Poison distribution. 2. Further assume that the average holding time per call is the national averag...

FXO line hum w/ Z-plex 10
I've recently begun integrating an Asterisk system into my house. I purchased the Dev Kit a year or two ago when Digium was selling it as a Z-plex 10 channel bank with the T100P. I've recently found that when I connect the serial monitoring port to my system it introduces a noticable hum on my incoming FXO lines. Anyone know (or have suggestions about) how to prevent this? -- Jamin

[Off Topic] humour, XMAS, ground loop - good business strategy
...;, at first I thought it was junk mail, but then I read through it, for the EE members of this list, it may be quite humorous. I don't know if the ballad is original, but at least it's the XMAS season, so it's something to lighten up your day, eh? -samudra """ How the Ground Loop Stole Christmas """ Every dude down in dude-ville Liked Christmas a lot... Hard Ground (On Ring)
...ne lines connected to our Adtran Total Access 750 which is then connected to a T100P card. I was convinced that, after rain storms, the static would get worse, it was surely a problem of Verizon's. Verizon sent a field rep out today and he told our secretary (I was busy) that there was a hard ground on the Ring portion of the line. Looking at the setup we have the NID connected directly to a 66 Punchdown block which then spans out to an amphenol 50 connector that connects to the Adtran. Could the Adtran be making a hardground anywhere? Has anyone seen/heard of this issue before? Unfortuant...

Moaning dog...
...nearby telephone pole, hooked in his test set, and dialed the subscriber's house. The phone didn't ring right away, but then the dog moaned loudly and the telephone began to ring. Climbing down from the pole, the telephone repairman found: 1. The dog was tied to the telephone system's ground wire via a steel chain and collar. 2. The wire connection to the ground rod was loose. 3. The dog was receiving voltage of signaling current when the phone number was called. 4. After a couple of such jolts, the dog would start moaning and then urinate on himself and the ground. The wet ground woul...

Is possible, on biological grounds, suggest to fitdistr (MASS library) that the estimated parameters must be between two values?
...mulating those records that I was able to observe x<-x[x>105 & x<=135] #fit truncated normal distribution to the data fitdistr(x, dtnorm0, start = list(mean = mean(x), sd = sd(x))) The result of the estimated true mean=132.8, sd=25.9, far from the true values. Can I, on biological grounds, suggest to fitdistr that the mean must be a value, for example, between 90 and 110? Sipura spa-2000 / 3000: surge protection
...ipura spa-3000 adapter. I would like to provide surge protection for the spa-2000 and the spa-3000 adapters. 1. For spa-2000, fxs port: What is the maximum tip-to-ring voltage before damage to the the adapter occurs? 2. For spa-2000, fxs port: What is the maximum voltage between both legs and ground before damage to the the adapter occurs? (I have looked inside an spa-2000 adapter and saw that the board has a ground plane integrated; the four screw holes seem to connect to that ground plane) 3. For spa-2000, network port: Would I need any surge suppression? What would be a good way forward...

nls question
I'm using the nls library to fit peaks in spectra. The model that I'm using is a quadratic background plus a Gaussian peak. The peak is well described by the Gaussian and the background is mostly linear with a bit of quadratic. My goal is an estimate of the integral (and the uncertainty of the integral) of the peak without the back ground. The procedure that I'm using is as follows - first,...

Cisco 7960 Locking Up
Ok... I asked a question a few months back about a 7960 that a user claims to be "shocking" her in her ear from time to time. A few others indicated they had similiar issues and alot of them seemed to stem from power over ethernet. Here's what we've done... We replaced the phone, ran two new cat5 cables to a different switch, put in a power brick and disabled power over

There are a bunch of other factors that may need to be taken into account. Ground Start on Asterisk
Has anyone used ground start on Asterisk? I am using a TE110P connected a Adtran 750 channel bank FXO card. It appears that Asterisk is not setting the CAS RBS bits properly to seize the line. I can see this with the zttool and the Adtran admin serial port status. I have configured the zaptel.conf and Zapata.conf to use...

Middle Ground between POTS and T1?
I was wondering if there was a middle ground between POTS lines and a T1. I have a new office with a T1 line and while it's working well, it's a lot of money and we will never use anywhere near 23 lines at one time. Is it possible to get a few ISDN lines or something and bundle them together? Basically I would like to get the d...
