OSX universal rsync
Hi All,
Well, we compiled pre9 on an intel Mac running Tiger and now it
does work on the machine. I need to see if that will now work on a PPC
mac though. Hopefully it will but I am wondering if there is a way to
compile and make a universal binary rsync for the Mac that will run on
both, from my PPC Mac. Itried that yesterday with

SE estimates for treatment groups from nlme
I am wondering how to obtain SE estimates for fixed effects from a nonlinear mixed effects model?
I have fixed effects corresponding to three factors A, B and C with 2, 3 and 3 levels respectively. I have fit a model of the following general form:
nlme1<-nlme(y~ SasympOrig(x, Asym, lrc), data=df, fixed=list(Asym~A*B*C, lrc~A*B*C),
start=c(fixef(ETR.nlme)[1], rep(0,17), fixef(ETR.nlme)[2],

Using corStruct in nlme
I am having trouble fitting correlation structures within nlme. I would like to
fit corCAR1, corGaus and corExp correlation structures to my data. I either
get the error "step halving reduced below minimum in pnls step" or
alternatively R crashes.
My dataset is similar to the CO2 example in the nlme package. The one major
difference is that in my case the 'conc' steps are

Thought on large files
Hi There,
I've been toying around with the code of rsync on and off for a while,
and I had a thought that I would like some comments on. Its to do with
very large files and disk space.
One of the common uses of rsync is to use it as a backup program. A
client connects to the rsync server, and sends over any changed files.
If the client has very large files that have changed marginally,

Unix Attributes in Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC) tool
I am using a Samba 4.1.16 as an Active Directory domain controller.
After a lot of time complaining to myself that my users' properties
sheet in ADUC did not contain the Unix Attributes tab, it finally
occurred to me that I should look again into Windows 7 >> Control Panel

scp files with ':' in filename
greetings,
would it be a good idea to include within the scp man pages, how one would
use scp to copy files which have the ' : ' character in the filename?
a friend struggled a little trying to do this, discovered the answer on
google, i thought it might be usefull to have in the man pages too.
the solution was to use the files' full path so that scp recognised it as a
file.

ipw220 wireless firmware for CentOS 5
...tory. Unfortunately, the instructions in
README.ipw2200 and INSTALL are not clear as to what to do next. I'm
using CentOS 5 on my (Dell) laptop so setting-up wireless networking should
be
reasonably straightforward - shouldn't it? Any help much appreciated -
I'm a real linux fan, but it grieves me to say that, in this case,
"wireless works much
better in Windows XP!"

Yet another filter question
Hello,
Since the very first day I've been using rsync - some 15 years ago -
the filtering rules caused great grieve. Their behaviour is just not
the way I'd expect it be be and as I read the manpage. Usually I end
up with some hand-written recipes, carefully documented,y including all
the gotchas.
This time however I failed and I see no other way than to ask for
advice.

[RFC] Turn the MachineOutliner on by default in AArch64 under -Oz
Hello
A 4.4% geomean codesize improvement is really impressive. That stuff is hard to come by, you usually have to nibble away at it bit at a time. I ran some codesize benchmarks we have and they were in the same ballpark. Some of these are quite small so had less opportunity for outlining, but the average was still over 3% with some as high as 9-10%.
All the tests I ran were fine, although we

member server 3.0.23c drives me nuts
...to the shares again at normal speed without me changing
anything.
2) I could not log in to the member server anymore via ssh and also not
on the console. The server just didn't give me a shell. This led me to
resetting the server who had an uptime of almost 600 days. This is
actually what grieves me most ;-)
After poking around a bit I found in log.winbindd

I was permitted too. But you were faster. :-)
Possibly it's also worth to mention here:

I don't have a computer right now and it's difficult/not so comfortable to edit with a mobile.

Rsync iconv (Cygwin) (file has vanished)
I have another question. I'm not sure if this is the correct post for
cygwin rsync related questions.
I've compiled rsync 3.0.0pre8 under cygwin. Works splendidly and
compiles cleanly. I made sure to have libiconv installed and it supports
the --iconv command (at least it accepts it).
I've been using rsync to test a backup of some files from a windows box
to a linux box. I use

find the right (wine) path
wine version 20001002 running in rh7. installed and working.
Have a newbie question about command line paths to access windows apps.
No problem accessing anything in c:\windows eg freecell.exe by the simple
command # wine freecell.exe
the mount directory is named /dos (and is in /etc/wine/wine.conf under
Drive c) so I assume that the command
# wine /dos/agent/agent.exe should bring up the

ipconfig:About the length of 'options' field of DHCP packet
Hi,
I had the problem that 'ipconfig' as DHCP client in Debian-squeeze could not get
DHCP Offer reply from the built-in DHCP server of the cheap route that I have.
The name of the router is 'MegaBitGear TE4571E' which
I got at contract of ADSL Internet access service in 2009.
The router is not too old and can reply to other
DHCP clients like ISC-dhclient, WindowsXP and Vista.

compiling samba 3.4.8 on CentOS_6.2
Hello All.
Been trying without avail to make idmap work with my AD so I can get "real"
UID/GID for SSH logins on a CentOS_6 box. Have heard from several sources
that idmap has seen some serious changes since 3.5 and decided to roll back
from the "stock" 3.5 that comes with CentOS_6 to 3.4.8. I'd like to see if
it has the same problems.
Installed a clean build of
