WinXP clients connect slowly to Samba
Folks,
Haven't been able to find any information on either issue.
1) We have Windows clients (primarily NT4sp6a and WinXP sp1) connecting to
Samba servers, and it works fine but the connections are slow. They take
5-10 seconds whereas connections to native Windows servers are nearly
instant.
2) The WinXP machines seem to disconnect the SMB session to the Samba
servers ASAP rather than

XP clients regularly lose connection
Hi,
We have Samba 2.2.8 on RedHat 9.0 (from rpm).
We connect about 5 Win XP Professional PC's (with Service Pack 1)
to the server.
Roaming profiles are set up.
After about 30 minutes client connections are lost to the server and
the users cannot reconnect to the server, even if samba is restarted.
A reboot of the server is required.
This occurs, it seems at this stage, when large

Access denied
Hello,
Samba 1.9.16p11 on Sun OS 5.6
For a NT4 Server SP4, I can not access to the samba server. When I look
at the log.MachineName file, I see the error "password server not
avalaible".
I must say that it is working fine with an NT4 SP4 server on the same
domain with the same user account.
I have change the registry to authorize non-encrypted password.
......
Thanks.

Quickbooks revisited
I did testing on generating this report from a 130 MB Quickbooks file.
Locally, 15 seconds. Samba Server, 1:35. Shared off of my win98
Workstation, 2+ mins. I do not understand the reason it is SOO slow. I
know it is a fairly large file. The only explanation I can come up with is
the way QuickBooks is accessing the files. Maybe jumping all around the
file, requiring many operations on the

Possible security issue with Samba 3.02 and MySQL database
I have been doing some testing with Samba and using MYSQL as the passdb
backend (no it is not the security issue mentioned in the samba how-to)
I found what I believe is is a serious security issue and I am not sure
if this security issue is an operating system issue or a Samba issue
that should be looked at by the Samba team. Is there such a place as to
report such security concerns to the

Trouble adding new users with samba 3.0
Mandrake 9.1, Samba 3.0 (used rpm's)
I just upgraded one of my pc's to samba 3.0 today. The issue is that all
existing users before the upgrade can log onto the samba pdc with no
problems. However any new users that I add cannot log on. I thought that
maybe something had gone wrong so I uninstalled 3.0 and any remnants of
2.2.8 and did a clean install of samba 3.0. After installing, the
