Preserving argument splitting with SSH
...ing whether it's a fundamental shortcoming of the SSH
protocol that argument splitting is not preserved from client to server,
but instead the argument list is re-split on whitespace. E.g., from my
machine `gellar', I execute:
% ssh gellar args foo bar 'baz bong'
ARG0 = /usr/home/gregb/bin/share/args, NumArgs = 4
1 = "foo"
2 = "bar"
3 = "baz"
4 = "bong"
(where args is just a script that outputs the arguments), instead of
what I get when I run args directly:
% args foo bar 'baz bong'
ARG0 = /usr/home/gregb/bin/share/args, Nu...

this, they're set to the source timestamp, which is what I want....). I
don't know if any of the 'stat' info on the destination file (like the
change timestamp - modification definitely wouldn't work....) would be
useful, though.
Thoughts?

Renaming root account

Hi everyone,
One quick question: Is it safe and/or sensible to rename the root
account, so that the only uid 0 user on a system is something different
to root? I can see how this would be effective against external
attackers who have no knowledge of the internals of the system as they
would spend pointless hours trying to crack a user which doesnt

Samba ver 2.2.2 - socket read - WinXP

Dear All,
I have enjoyed some success with Samba version 2.2.2. I am using
it to serve Micro$ Access to end users. It works very well on a prior
version of Unix, with older Win2k clients. Now, with my current version,
and Win XP Pro, I have problems. Periodically, they get abruptly kicked out.
I get syslog errors which look like:
kforce-adm-# tail syslog
