"evaluating expressions" contained in a dataframe
...from within another dataframe. Is there
any way within R I can access the rules in the dataframe called tests, and
then "evaluate" these "rules"?
#An example may better explain what I am trying to accomplish:
tests <- data.frame(matrix(data=c("info$country == 'Greenland'", "info$age
> 50"), nrow=2, ncol=1))
names(tests) <- "rule"
info <- data.frame(matrix(data=NA, nrow=5, ncol=3))
names(info) <- c("first", "country", "age")
info$name <- c("Mary", "Paul", "Rober...

Mantel-Haenszel relative risk with Greenland-Robins variance estimate
Does anyone know of an R function for computing the Greenland-Robins
variance for Mantel-Haenszel relative risks?
Thanks

Introducing the Asterisk Realtime Architecture - ARA
I've added an introduction article about the ARA on my web site
http://www.voip-forum.com/
The same text is now also added to CVS head as README.realtime.
On the same site, you will also find the news item about how we used
Asterisk for a call from an airline jet above Greenland to Stockholm,
Sweden. The world is getting smaller and more connected every day!

Can lmer() fit a multilevel model embedded in a regression?
...e challenge is that the persons are _not_ nested within food items, so
it is not a simple multilevel structure.
We're planning to write a Gibbs sampler and fit the model directly, but
it would be convenient to be able to flt in lmer() as well to check.

trend estimation for cohort study
Hi R Users,
I wish to estimate if there is a trend in my relative risk obtained by coxph. The best i've found is a method from Greenland and Longnecker ( Am J Epidemiology 1992 vol 135 (11) - p 1301-9 ).
But all I have is my relative risk and their std error.
Is there a command in R that can do this ?
If there is someone with a better method ?
Thanking you in advance, I look forward your reply.

I was recently getting rsync 2.5.6 choking on me on certain very large
files when I was trying to RSYNC SuSE Linux 8.2 from ftp.nrc.ca.

compare odds ratios
Hi there, is there any way to compare 2 odds ratios? I
have two tests that are supposed to detect a disease
presence. So for each test, I can compute an odds
ratio. My problem is how can I compare the 2 tests by
testing whether the 2 odds ratios are the same?

graph bugs using R on MAC
This is has been bugging me for a long time. Nobody around me seems to
have this problem. I hope someone on the forum could help me.
When I generate a R graph and want to bring the image into Word. I
cannot copy and paste it like many of my classmates can do. The
"Select" in Edit menu have all options grayed out. So what I ended up
doing is to save it as pdf file and bring it

...robably buffering issues (the way the sending of cheksums interleaves
with the receiving of data), but also the the number of checksums sent
in the last file varies.
Ideas? Since I seem to be able to duplicate the problem at will, I'd be
happy to tryout any fixes.

Steve
