Correspondence analysis/optimal scaling with ordinal variable
...very low
education level, 21 with low education level, etc.
I need to compute a score for each area that reflects the education
level in this area. This can be done by using correspondence
analysis: The scores on the first factor represent an optimal scaling
in a certain sense (see the book of Greenacre (1984) "Theory and
applications of correspondence analysis" for instance). In other
words, I have to transform my ordinal variable "EducationLevel" into
a continuous variable "EducationScore".
However, this procedure does not account for the fact that one of my

Subject: CORRESPONCE ANALYSIS
Dear All
I am new R user, trying to do correspondence analysis using the function mca
of the package MASS. My question is: In the following example
farms.mca <- mca(farms, abbrev = T) # Use levels as names
plot(farms.mca, cex = rep(0.7, 2), axes = F)
How can I change the

[OT] correspondence analysis w/ non-mutually-exclusive ca tegories
Andy,
Take a look at Greenacre, Theory and Applications of Correspondence
Analysis. He has many example of dealing with all sorts of data.
Basically, the technique is relevant for 2-way tables -- MCA is an
extenstion. It is not clear in your example whether CA is really
appropriate -- you want to make an observation (if at al...

[OT] correspondence analysis w/ non-mutually-exclusive categories
Greetings, again. This is not strictly an R question, so please feel free
to ignore it if you like.
My question is about the substance of correspondence
analysis. Specifically, is it appropriate to use ca on a matrix of values
such that the columns and/or rows are not mutually exclusive? To be more
detailed:
- The standard use of ca is illustrated in the example of corresp() (from
MASS):

interpretation of p values for highly correlated logistic analysis
Dear list,
I want to perform a logistic regression analysis with multiple
categorical predictors (i.e., a logit) on some data where there is a
very definite relationship between one predicator and the
response/independent variable. The problem I have is that in such a
case the p value goes very high (while I as a naive newbie would
expect it to crash towards 0).
I'll illustrate my problem
