Rails Conf Europe - Hotel
For all those that haven''t got round to booking a hotel for Rails Conf
(which included me until 5 minutes ago), I just found this place:
http://www.activereservations.com/hotel/en/hotels-in-bloomsbury/ah-116767.html
- £30 per night and it''s less than a minute for the conference hall.
Gotta be better than sharing a dorm with greasy backpacking students...

Hot to configure Samba 3 as PDC and BDC for a Windows network
Hi all,
I hoping someone out there might be able to tell my how to configure and Samba
box to be a PDC and BDC for a windows network? I'd like to use the LDAP
backend, but and too new to the Unix world to understand how this is
accomplished. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Charlie

Tooltips.js
Hi,
there already had been a Tooltips implementation [1] but i wasn''t to
happy with that one, not only because they didn''t support simple
mouse-hover tooltips (just as they appear when you are using title
attributes)
But writting this lib was also a good way to get into script.aculo.us
and prototype.js. (and i can''t say how impressed i am)
So here it is:

Kernel:[Hardware Error]: use of vacuum

It's a good idea, especially in low-humidity climates. Also noteworthy:
the air moving through a hose can cause a vacuum's hose or attachment to
build up a static charge, which is another reason it can be a bad idea
to use a vacuum in a computer.

Centos 5.7--desktop icons are now a blank sheet of paper with the .desktop filename and they don't work
Just rebooted my box (switched keyboards, and since it's a PS/2 keyboard,
it needs to be done at poweroff) and when it came back up, (almost) all
the desktop icons I've created (as distinct from the ones that came with
the system) now don't display correctly.
Instead of the graphic assigned to each, it's just a picture of a blank
sheet of paper with the corner folded over, and the

Regression in kernel 3.5 as Dom0 regarding PCI Passthrough?!
Hi!
i notice a serious regression with 3.5 as Dom0 kernel (3.4 was rock
stable):
1st: only the GPU PCI Passthrough works, the PCI USB Controller is not
recognized within the DomU (HVM Win7 64)
Dom0 cmdline is:
ro root=LABEL=dom0root
xen-pciback.hide=(08:00.0)(08:00.1)(00:1d.0)(00:1d.1)(00:1d.2)(00:1d.7)
security=apparmor noirqdebug nouveau.msi=1
Only 8:00.0 and 8:00.1 get passed through

encoding bitrates, different machines...
I found I have ripped the same CD twice with different machines. Cannot
remember when, why, or how, but anyway. I've been using jack, here is
relevant output:
first one:

02/|\enc/|\128/|\[coding @0.69× done,124kbit]
03/|\enc/|\128/|\[coding @0.66× done,124kbit]
<etc>
econd one:

Weird problem with median on a factor
Hi all,
I hope this isn't a naive newbie question again. Here you can see column 264 of
a data frame containing data of the same interview in May and September. Column
264 contains the answers of 49 persons to a question in May.
