lattice grayscale "theme"
Hi,
is there a grayscale setting for lattice plots?
I like the default color settings. I also like the settings that are
available for setting black and white with something like this:
--8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8---
ltheme <- canonical.theme(color = FALSE) ## in-built B&W theme
ltheme$strip.background$col <- "transparent" ##

how do I use only black ink?
I have an HP Photosmart C3180 All-in-one.
As I haven't had any need for color lately,
when I last replaced ink, I only replaced the black cartridge.
It didn't work, even when printing grayscale-only images,
even when telling print-set-up grayscale-only.
Is there a way to tell my printer to use only the black ink cartridge.
My test image is a handmade postscript file
that only use setgray

grayscale wireframe??
I need grayscale formatting for a wireframe.
The only col.regions that I can find are color palettes are all colored:
rainbow(n, s = 1, v = 1, start = 0, end = max(1,n - 1)/n,
gamma = 1, alpha = 1)
heat.colors(n, alpha = 1)
terrain.colors(n, alpha = 1)
topo.colors(n, alpha = 1)
cm.colors(n, alpha = 1)
The code follows:
X11()
library(lattice)
par(family="serif", cex=1.2)

Grayscale figures in odfWeave?
Dear list,
I am sorry if this is a FAQ, but I have just started using odfWeave
for report construction and it seems not to behave exactly like
Sweave.
I want to get my figures in grayscale, but the tip given in the FAQ of
Sweave http://www.stat.uni-muenchen.de/~leisch/Sweave/FAQ.html#x1-10000A.8
only produces gray scale images in the screen output, not in the odf
document.
This is my init code:

How to display an image on RGL plot?
Hi all.
It's been a long time since I wrote to this list. Glad to see the R project
well and working.
I am working with a 3D plot similar to this:
http://old.nabble.com/file/p26525177/rgl-device.png rgl-device.png
The underlying picture is a JPEG image, loaded with the rimage package and
coerced to the matrix.
Spheres denote control points, collected from this picture and must be

Increasing grayscale value in scatter plot with number of points on particular location
Dear all,
When making a plot with the command plot(xVector, yVector), there are many
points that collide on the same place in the plot. In order to make this
plot clearer, I have been looking for a way to colour the points based on
the number of points that fall onto each other. If only one point falls on a
particular location, make it gray, if many points fall, make it black.
I tried to search

samba3, network printing, additional problems
Hello,
First of all my thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I'm still
having an issue getting this network printer going. I'm now getting a
windows error from explorer.exe, i've checked all the windows system,
application, and security logs and of course the error is not in them. I
then turned samba's debug level to 10, reloaded it and tried again to
access the printer. This

transparent grays?
Is there a grayscale equivalent to alpha levels in rgb?
Example: I have the following to make red transparent circles overlap
with previously plotted blue symbols.
symbols(x=sites$long,y=sites$lat,circles=log(sites$prop.nem
+1),add=T,inches=F,bg=rgb(red=1,green=0,blue=0,
alpha=0.5),fg=rgb(red=1,green=0,blue=0, alpha=0.5))
I'm having a hard time coming up with a grayscale equivalent.

change color scheme in mvpart
Hello everyone, I am currently using the mvpart package and would like to change the color scheme it uses, and was hoping someone could help me out. All of the papers I have found have used a grayscale but I can't seem to figure out how they did that! Currently, mvpart plots barplots in a repeating sequence of 3 shades of blue. So if you have 6 response variables the same shade of blue is used

package ReadImages
Dear all
I prepared some image processing routine which depended on package ReadImages. Basically I imported image to R, changed rgb to grayscale, normalised an image made some selections and changed to image by imagematrix.
Recently I learned that this package was removed from CRAN and can not be used in R 3.0.0.
What options I have now to import image to R, change it to grayscale, make some

Text sometimes missing on NV18 based laptop
Hi,
On my NV18 based laptop I experience artifacts related to text
(however, 2D performance is really great these days):
- With grayscale AA text is sometimes missing, often visible on the XFCE desktop
- With subpixel (rgb) AA, even non-text related occur (icons are
misrendered, ...)
I've reported the issues here:

With noaccel it works

Well, I wasn't really awake I guess.. It's just a script that calls
GhostScript for pdf generation..
But the question still stands, what IS the best quality printer driver to
use for GhostScript -> pdf printing? We need both colours and high
resolution..

xyplot: superpose 2 time series with different time intervals
I could use some advice regarding xyplot.
I've got 2 time series. Both cover approximately the same period of
time (ie, 1940 to 2009). But one series has annual data and the other
has monthly data. One refers to university enrollment; the other to
unemployment rates. Both are currently in the same data frame.
I'd like to use the monthly times series as a light grayscale
background for a
