Trying to get a grasp on NTP server/client access control options
...ntp.conf file and started my own from scratch. Right now, I have five printed books opened on the corresponding chapters (Carla Schroder's Linux Cookbook, RHEL 5 Unleashed, Foundations of CentOS, etc.) plus the same amount of online tutorials. Right now I'm having a bit of a hard time grasping the various access control options. Here's a few lines from ntp's default configuration in CentOS : --8<------ /etc/ntp.conf ----------------------------------------------- ... server 0.centos.pool.ntp.org server 1.centos.pool.ntp.org server 2.centos.pool.ntp.org ... restrict 0.cento...

z limits
Hello, I am using R to run a program called GRASP - Generalized Regression Analysis and Spatial Prediction. I am trying to draw a figure using GRASP, and I get the following error message in R: Error in image.default(map, col = heat.colors(12)) : invalid z limits What are z limits? Can I manually set them? Please let me know if you have any insight on this! Thanks, Jennifer Skene

web development needed
I'm posting this here because I'd like to give people in the FreeBSD community first dibs on a job I need done. Friends/associates of people subscribed here are welcome as well. I need two web sites developed. They will both be relatively simple. On the order of 4-10 pages. Applicants should have: Good grasp of English grammar and have an understanding of principles used to market

Trying to grasp the difference between local variables and instance variables/
Hi: Would it be fair to say (or completely out to lunch) that a local variable is local to a method and an instance variable is local to an object. Thus an instance variable is a sort of limited global variable or super-powered local variable. Its scope is larger than a local but smaller than a global. Or that it is a global within a limited domain (the object). or is it a whole lot

gam and step
hello, I am looking for a step() function for GAM's. In the book Statistical Computing by Crawley and a removal of predictors has been done "by hand" model <- gam(y ~s(x1) +s(x2) + s(x3)) summary(model) model2 <- gam(y ~s(x2) + s(x3)) # removal of the unsignificant variable #then comparing these two models if an significant increase occurs. anova(model, model2,

Ecological Niche Modelling on R
Dear all, I have strong interest on Ecological Niche Model, which in general use a set of environmental variables (continuous, categorical etc) and Presence (or Presense/Absence) records for species. I think that "grasp" and "adehabitat" packages could help me on these tasks. My input layers are on ASC format, and the record of species is a data-frame with X, Y, name of

maximum likelihood example?
I'm trying to get a grasp of maximum-likelihood estimation and would like to find a package that performs mle (hopefully a simple example). It seems as if there are plenty of packages that make use of different types of likelihood estimators, but none are of a simple, "newbie" type. Does anyone have a suggestion for which package would be the best for a mle example? Thanks, Jeff.

Problems with Rules?
Hi -- I was happily running Shorewall 1.4 for quite a while, then upgraded recently to 2.0.13 (Debian Linux, Exim4, Squid, no DMZ) and can''t get Shorewall working. When I start it, my ssh and pop3 access is immediately blocked locally. This is a very simple setup. No dmz, just ETH1 to the Internet and ETH0 local, with IP Masq. Turned ON. I would appreciate it if someone who has a

Postfix and Dovecot LDA vs. LMTP
I'm new to Dovecot and will be using it with Postfix. I'm looking for recommendations regarding the use of Dovecot's LDA or LMTP for virtual mailbox delivery. Many of the simple examples on the wiki use LDA. So I've set that up initially. But apparently an advantage of LMTP is recipient verification. So, as I understand it, LMTP would let Postfix know whether or not the

Hello R user, I downloaded grasper_0.3-2.tar.gz and installed it as described. $ su $ R CMD INSTALL grasper_0.3-2.tar.gz $ R that seems to work, but > grasp.GUI() doesn't work. I read the note, that graspeR need mgcv (downloaded), MASS, modreg and tcktk . I haven't found the last 3 packetages in the Suse 8.1 contrib list. Where can I find them? Or what could be the problem? thanks in

Coding help : Where to log X11 forwards?
OpenSSH 5.1p1 I can't grasp why, when connecting with 'ssh -Y' to this test host, I am not tickling the verbose() call below that I have added. I am logging as auth + verbose in sshd_config The X11 forward for the session works fine as tested with xterm. At any rate, I am looking for some guidance on where to log X11 forwards that are established, ideally with a username and remote

Call Waiting
...and FXS modules. On the Analog phones, I can hear the Incoming call (call waiting) tone, but the system does not respond to a "hook flash", to place the current call on hold and answer the incoming call. I have not attempted, nor research how/if this can be done on SIP. What am I not grasping here? About the Analog phone/Asterisk actions. Not too vague, I hope. joe a.
