Do you have any policy in the User tree in the GPME in that GPO? If you never defined one, then the file is missing. Try e. g. setting the screensaver timeout to 15 mins (inside the user tree - not machine). Then the file should be created by GPME. Regards, Marc

Group Policy Settings Missing/Not Applying
Hi, Im attempting to apply a few group policy settings but they dont seem to be applying on the machine in question, or some settings I cannot see in the GPME. 1. Settings applied to openssh dont seem to create the required config files in /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/ for ssh to actually pick up on these changes. Is there a different location its applying these to that I can verify with? Below is an example of what im trying to set just to see if it work...

...s for the domain, still seems to be through samba-tool domain passwordsettings and the parameter "apply group policies" has got no effect at all. If I create a gpresult.html file on a Windows member PC, it shows the settings I have set with the Windows Group Policy Management Editor (GPME), but when setting a password for a user in Active Directory Users and Computers, the settings are not honored. In GPME there is also the folder Samba\smb.conf, where the different password policy parameters can be set. No effect at all. In practice, this is not a big deal. You probably set the...

...land > Hi Rowland, Thanks for the link. I will study it with interest. However, I'm setting up a Windows only test domain, the only Linux box is the Samba DC, and I will try using the RSAT tool suite as far as possible. Trying to set the password policies for the domain with the Windows GPME (logged in as domain\administrator), got me absolutely nowhere. Setting the policies using samba-tool worked. Reading through previous posts on the Samba list, the only way seems to be using samba-tool, unless I missed something essential. The ADMX templates both for Samba and for Windows 10 22...

The wiki: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Package_Dependencies_Required_to_Build_Samba Debian / Ubuntu These 2 packages are not available for 18.04 but are for 16.04 python-gpgme python3-gpgme Does this mean you can't build on 18.04? I assume so. I assume this is okay: Note, selecting 'perl-modules-5.26' instead of 'perl-modules' -Barry Adkins

If you create a new GPO, the GPMC only created the GUID folder, that contains an empty Machine and User folder and the GPT.INI file. Nothing else. When you define your first policy using the GPME, the registry.pol file is created in the Machine/User folder - depending where your change is located. If you don't know to which GPO the GUID belongs, open the GPMC, expand "Group Policy Objects". When you click each entry, the "Details" tab shows you the GUID. > Eve...
