Questions about setup
I have worked in IT for several years and programming or anything related to this is not exactly one of my strengths. I need help creating a vesamenu.. Im trying to setup up so I can access my Acronis backup and disaster recovery 10 server, knoppix live cd, hardware diagnostics - pcdoctor and maybe a hiren type boot cd. I checked the Linux irc channel which I guess is now abandoned. If anyone

That's interesting, I didn't know that isolinux.bin could read a syslinux.cfg file :) This would simplify the USB installers' job: IIRC they currently have to rename isolinux ? syslinux, isolinux.cfg ? syslinux.cfg,...

Module Versioning
Actually, as you may have questions with some elements you'll see in the log, and especially: Detected Syslinux version: 6.03/20150819 (from '/EFI/BOOT/isolinux.bin') So I should point out that EFI/grub is actually used by the tails people to chain load EFI/Syslinux (hence the ldlinux.e64, ldlinux.c32 as well as isolinux.bin one also sees in /efi/boot/). As a result, in the

Acceptable version mismatch between syslinux 6.0N's MBR/ldlinux.sys and *.c32?
...e the same > paths for standardization's sake. If I may, I'd like to clarify the above paragraph, just in case some potential reader might misunderstand / misinterpret it. First, the 'util/linux/syslinux' path is not really a requirement. It just happens that ClonezillaLive, GPartedLive and Tuxboot (among others) have developer(s) in-common. Considering that the Syslinux installers (for BIOS systems) use different file names and that the Syslinux version shall be the same for all Syslinux-related files, they could all be located in one directory all together, including the...

...to the cfg file name, as isolinux.bin can use "syslinux.cfg" just fine. Then the ISO building script should use this "syslinux/" path for the location of isolinux.bin. This is, of course, for BIOS, as "isolinux" has nothing to do with UEFI. For possible reference, GpartedLive and ClonezillaLive are already using this naming convention. All the above steps would simplify the directory tree, would simplify the steps for writing a bootable USB drive using the content of the ISO image, would reduce the need to maintain grub.efi too (in addition to syslinux.efi), an...

Hi, first, thanks a lot, Ady and Gene, for your prompt and very useful replies!
