syslinux/isolinux 6.2 "Error: Couldn't read the first disk sector"
...wed: "Booting from local disk..." Then I got the error message: "Boot failed: press a key to retry" I am sure the hard drive could boot since if I remove the live CD it can successfully boot into my Linux box. The live CD I created was put here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/gparted/files/gparted-live-testing/0.16.2-9/gparted-live-0.16.2-9-i686-pae.iso/download I have tested this on VMWare WS 10 and real machine, like Acer Aspire One. All have the same issue. BTW, I have no problem when the live CD was using syslinux/isolinux 5.10, i.e. http://sourceforge.net/projects/gpar...

installing extlinux on a fresh system. Why does it fail ?
Hi All, I am trying to install extlinux on a fresh system. Here are my steps : ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ A) Create an ext2 partition. I did the following steps : 1) boot from CD 2) Activate GParted 3) Create Partition table on the "fresh disk" (/dev/sda). 4) Create 1 ext2 partition (and mark its flag as "boot"). B)mkdir /mnt/Ext2_partition C) mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/Ext2_partition D) mkdir /mnt/Ext2_partition/extlinux E) extlinux --directory /mnt/Ext2_partition/extlinux --...

I won't go into how to use gparted, it'...

installing extlinux on a fresh system. Why does it fail ?
Thanks I let GParted create the file system. It was done on a rescue disk of Ubuntu 12.04 (GParted 0.11.0) I think that the problem is in my command line. Mau On Mon, Mar 24, 2014 at 4:04 PM, Mattias Schlenker <ms at mattiasschlenker.de>wrote: > Am 24.03.2014 14:13, schrieb Mau Z: > > Hi All, &g...

Reinstalling boot blocks on a ZFS-only system
So, I've long known and it makes sense that when you're booted from a ZFS volume, you can't mess with the boot-loader. And, I know a few months ago I had a set of commands I would use when booted from a CD that would initialize the network and copy the "release/boot" from somewhere else so that I could install bootblocks and boot-loaders from more recent code. Sadly, I

C6: Gparted "the kernel failed to re-read partition table"
On C6 (latest) I wanted to add an extra partition, number 14, to a 1TB GPT disk. It failed repeatedly. ThinkStation with BIOS RAID and disk error messages in gparted
My ThinkStation runs CentOS 7 which I installed on a BIOS RAID 0 setup with two identical 256 Gb SSDs after removing Windows. It runs fine but I just discovered in gparted something that does not seem right: - Launching gparted it complains "invalid argument during seek for red on /dev/md126" and when I click on Ignore I get another error "The backup GPT table is corrupt, but the primary appears OK, so that will be used." I then click on OK whe...

You would be asking gparted to: 1. Reach inside an LVM PV and shrink one filesystem and its LV, 2. Rearrange the extents inside the PV to make free space at the beginning, 3. Move the start of the PV and adjust all of...

Live CD boot for KVM guest. How?
...the size of total image to 200G. 3. I managed to resize the image to 200G on my iscsi drive. So, there is 188G unallocated/unformatted volume within the guest image. Now, the hardest part. I have to resize the partition. I have been trying to find a way to do that. A search on Google showed that GParted is tool to do that. I had to install all Desktop and X as Gparted is a GUI tool. Installed vncserver. Then, I found out that GParted can not resize the live guest. So, I downloaded GParted Live CD. Now, the questions: 1. If it was a physical machine I would boot from the CD. If I can boot i...

OT - parted guidance
parted fs resize is deprecated. http://savannah.gnu.org/forum/forum.php?forum_id=6837 parted fs move can only move a partition into free space https://www.gnu.org/software/parted/manual/html_node/move.html The thing to do here is use gparted live or Fedora live media and yum/dnf install gparted. It has a move/resize option that will do what the OP wants. Chris Murphy

Resizing EXT3 partition in guest instance CentOS5
...ext3 partition. I will like to reduce 1 VM harddisk space and using the 'release' harddisk space to add onto my second VM. Basically I need to know how can I reduce and increase an ext3 partition in CentOS KVM. I did a search and basically i can do it by booting the VM using Knoppix and use Gparted to reduce and increase the diskspace. I am thinking of the following 1) Boot first VM using Knoppix 2) Reduce the ext3 partition disk size using Gparted 3) Shutdown the VM and resize the diskspace using Virtual Manager 4) Increae the diskspace of the second VM using Virtual Manager 5) Boot up se...

FreeBSD 9 "gptboot: invalid backup GPT header" error (boots fine though)
...r VM) FreeBSD 9 instances and I've probably done 50+ FreeBSD 9 VM and physical installs at this point (and run through the installer process probably over 150 times :P). Before I get into the GPT error, I want to mention this in case its relevant: I found I had to partition via the shell (gpart create/gpart add/etc etc) the disks during install or the kernel would fail to re-mount the root disk after booting into the new OS. If I used the default layout, or the partition GUI at all (ie; 'manual mode') the new OS wouldn't remount root on boot. I could manually specify th...

USB boot problems on Gigabyte GA-M55Plus-S3G

It now appears to me that GParted's reporting of the status of the per-partition "bootable"...

Hi, I have a 24TB RAID6 disk with a GPT partition table on it. I need to partition it into 2 partitions one of 16TB and 1 of 8TB to put ext4 filesystems on both. But I really need to do this remotely. ( if I can get to the site I could use gparted ) Now fdisk doesn't understand GPT partition tables and pat
