ANNOUNCE: Release of GnuCash stable version 1.8.12
The GnuCash development team proudly announces a new stable release of
the GnuCash Open Source Accounting Software version 1.8.12, which is
expected to be the very last release of the gtk1-based gnucash-1.8.x
series. The next release series of gnucash will be based on
gtk2/gnome2,
and the first pre-release packages are expected to be released
this December.
FAQ: "Is this a gnome2 application?" A: "No." This release still
belongs
to GnuCash's 1.8.x series which is not yet ported to gtk2/gnome2. Read
more below.

Plain requirement: desktop search
Just wondering, what exactly is supported/suggested:
I need a comprehensive desktop search functionality. Not only
searching for file names but also for content and meta data. The
environment is EL6.8 / Gnome2. I have noticed that "beagle" is
not part of the distro anymore. Any suggestions for such requirement?
Thanks!

Gnome2 Desktop mute buttons for mic and video
CentOS-6.6
Does anyone know of an application that would provide a 'mute' buttons
for video and audio that could be used from a desktop panel? Ideally
this would show the status (muted/cloaked or open mic/recording) of
each.
Presently, turning audio and video pick-ups off and on is rather
cumbersome. And I often forget what state I have left them in. Which
occasionally makes for some

[OT] linux on a PPC (mac mini)
...t this, but my former idea was to install
a CentOS on an old mac mini (PPC!). Disappointed to see that PowerPC is
not a supported architecture and that non ARM or Intel architecture are
not managed by recent distros.. :-(.
Searching the web, I see very few possibilities to install a recent (I
need gnome2) GNU/Linux distro on such hardware. I gave Linux MintPPC 11
(http://www.mintppc.org/content/list-macs) a try, but the netinstall
iso simply fails in installing a boot loader that conserves the
original OS/X partition even after many tries and workarounds.
Any hint or experience would be welcome?...

Desktop lag with CentOS7/Mate and high CPU usage
We have noticed significant desktop/UI lag on CentOS7 workstations using
Mate when the CPU usage is high - i.e. the mouse pointer lags and moving
windows (e.g. terminal windows) become jumpy (not smooth)
We didn't see (or notice) this issue with CentOS6/Gnome2
This can easily be shown by running something like 'cpuburn'
(https://patrickmn.com/projects/cpuburn/) and moving a mate-terminal
window around the screen
We can make things 'better' by running CPU intensive apps via 'nice'
(without any noticeable performance hit to the...

Eggcups printer icon not showing up in panel
I did a "side grade" on a client's machine freom FC2 to Centos4.2. I am
not seeing the eggcups printer icon appear when the user sends a print job.
One problem was that I had to copy /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession.rpmnew into
place so that the DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS variable got set correctly.
The messagebus service is running, as well as hal. There is a

Integrate shell scripts into Nautilus ?
Hi,
I'd like to integrate a handful of shell scripts into my Nautilus file
browser, for example to be able to resize a selection of images with one
click via ImageMagick, or convert videos easily. After a bit of
Googling, I found out that folks seem to do this by placing scripts into
~/.gnome2/nautilus-scripts. Only that doesn't seem to work for me.
Nothing appears in the browsers contextual menu.
Any pointers for a start ? Anyone here using something similar ?
Cheers,
Niki

CentOS 5.7, evince
...to open it. I've tried
telling it what to open from the command line, and brought it up by
itself, told it to open, pointed it to the correct directory, and clicked
on the .pdf I want, and hit <open>, and *bang*, it doesn't like it.
I've rm'd .local/share/mime/mime.cache and .gnome2/evince/ev-metadata.xml.
straceing doesn't even show me the filename mentioned.
