So... I was able to use XenCenter to upgrade from 1.1 to 1.6 by modifying test_repo(url) in prepare_host_upgrade.py. I upgraded two hosts.. One host decided that the time it wanted to give up the ghosts was after the upgrade (had underlying physical disk issues) . The other host upgraded just fine, but networking was completely broken.
