bogus hardlinks bug?
dear rsyncists,
rsync is superb!
but did i actually find a bug?
i did:
$ rsync -vRHSPa rsync://rsync.mirror.ac.uk/updates.redhat.com/7.3/en/os/SRPMS .
into an empty local directory
the result was 140 bogus hardlinks of the same file:
-rw-rw-r-- 140 g g 6147582 2002/12/04 16:55:24 Canna-3.5b2-62.7.3.src.rpm
-rw-rw-r-- 140 g g 6147582 2002/12/04 16:55:24

only owner (and root) can change attributes?
if i understand correctly, only the owner, and root, can change
attributes of a file?
thus, even though group members may be given permissions to write, and
delete, a file, they cannot change attributes, without the workaround of
copying and replacing the file?
and do i understand correctly that on winnt and successors, permission
to change attributes (eg 'everything' permission) can be

smb over ssh still valid?
is smb over ssh still valid? i eagerly tried it as specified in the
unofficial samba howto <http://hr.uoregon.edu/davidrl/samba.html>, but
no go. net view responds "System error 53 has occurred. The network
path was not found."
ssh (putty, with port 139 forwarded to localhost:139) did successfully
connect from a win2k machine accross the internet to my redhat 7.2
