NetBios name resolution from WINDOWS
...s, but I can ping this 7.10 from the
WinBox by IP address but _not_ by netbios name.
I do not have any issues on the 8 other ubuntu 6.06 boxes on the network.
The smb.conf files are "largely the same" on both the 6.06 boxes and the
7.10 box.
If I ping by IP - I get a response.
If I ping gm0: Ping request could not find gm0.....
If I ping gm0.geograph.co.za then it works and I get the correct IP
address too.
The above pings are from a VISTA box.
ps -ef shows nmbd is running
By the way, from windows vista explorer, _all_ of these attempts return

GEOM_PART: integrity check failed (mirror/gm0, MBR) on FreeBSD 8.3-RELEASE
I just did a source upgrade from 8.2 to 8.3. System boots but has this
warning:
GEOM_PART: integrity check failed (mirror/gm0, MBR)
Google points to issues with FreeBSD 9 and the need to migrate to GPT
but I wasn't expecting this with 8.3!
Are there any quick fixes to eliminate this warning or is it safe to
ignore please?

Likelihood ratio test between glm and glmer fits
Dear list,
I am fitting a logistic multi-level regression model and need to test the difference between the ordinary logistic regression from a glm() fit and the mixed effects fit from glmer(), basically I want to do a likelihood ratio test between the two fits.
The data are like this:
My outcome is a (1,0) for health status, I have several (1,0) dummy variables RURAL, SMOKE, DRINK, EMPLOYED,

Normally it looks like a disk error, but I think our half year old disks
(WD RE2) shouldn't fail after this short time. Of course they have moving
parts so they MAY fail. :( Yesterday I tried to reinit the sata channel
and insert the disk back into the mirror. I got...

interpreting glmer results
Hi all,
I am trying to run a glm with mixed effects. My response variable is
number of seedlings emerging; my fixed effects are the tree species
and distance from the tree (in two classes - near and far).; my random
effect is the individual tree itself (here called Plot). The command
I've used is:
mod <- glmer(number ~ Species + distance + offset(area) + (1|Plot),
family = poisson)

LSI Logic raid status
Hi,
I have a LSI Logic sata/sas raid running, is there a way to see the
state of
the volume, like optimal, degraded or resyncing?
I've tried several commands with camcontrol but I cant figure it out.

Sep 21 08:57:54 belle fsck: /dev/ad4s1d: UNEXPECTED SOFT UPDATE INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.
Ok, so I ran fsck manually (even with -y), but yet it refuses to clear/fix
whatever to the questions posed as fsck runs. What does this all mean?
Thanks,
-Clint
