free from GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap
You might have hear this before. I just came across it today.
from http://blog.beryl-project.org/
"I am running your svn and have noticed this non-tfp Beryl, what is this?
It is exactly what it sounds like, an early attempt (with some success I
might add) to make Beryl run without the need for texture_from_pixmap.
No more black window bug from nvidia, no more Xgl, no more AIGLX. Oh

...ty and smoothness, but it usually disappears soon after or
is overlapped by some black boxes where other window are below the video
window.
Is there any solution to this problem or am I the only one experiencing
this? I start compiz with LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT set to 1 for it to
recognize AIGLX' GLX_EXT_tfp, but this is another issue...
Would the problem go away if I'd use Xgl? Is Xgl even supported on Intel
graphics cards and is Xgl's Xvideo acceleration still based on fragment
shaders?

No 3D in KDE, other effects work
In Ubuntu 7.10 with KDE, I have compiz running under XGL. Although
Beryl ran fine in Ubuntu 7.04, Compiz will not enable 3D effects such
as wobbly windows. Other effects, such as minimize/restore animations,
work properly. The machine is a Dell Inspiron 6400 / E1505 laptop,
2Ghz Intel DuoCore2, 2GB RAM, ATI X1400, 1680x1050 widescreen. What
should I begin to troubleshoot?
Thanks in advance.

ATI and GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap error
Hello,
I am trying to install and run compiz on my computer since a few months
yet and there is no way. Today I checked out the latest git version and
it does not work neither.
I have a ATI Radeon 7500 rev200 and I think thats the problem. I am
using the open source radeon driver and xorg with AIGLX (on debian
testing/unstable). DRI is enabled and working, glxgears, too. The output

update on xdevconf07 and beryl situation
...to be very hard, the fragment attribute interface we have in the
core now will allow us to integrate this properly. This will improve
video playback performance significantly as well as reduce resources
currently used for XVideo extension to work on a composited desktop.
Drawing synchronization - GLX_EXT_tfp doesn't provide any application
drawing synchronization mechanism. This was left outside the spec to be
either done at the client level or as an additional extension to the
server. There's already ways to synchronization mapping and resizing of
windows on the client side and compiz supports...
