Trying to grasp the difference between local variables and instance variables/
Hi:
Would it be fair to say (or completely out to lunch) that a local
variable is local to a method and an instance variable is local to an
object. Thus an instance variable is a sort of limited global
variable or super-powered local variable. Its scope is larger than a
local but smaller than a global. Or that it is a global within a
limited domain (the object).
or is it a whole lot

Script question
Hello,
I've got the following script that I want to run every time a user logs in to the Samba server, whether it be from a mapped share or by opening a telnet session into the server and logging in that way.
Here's the script:
#!/bin/sh
DOMAIN=`echo $USER | awk -F_ '{print $1}'`
USERNAME=`echo $USER | awk -F_ '{print $2}'`
if [ $DOMAIN = "MA" ]; then

Missing model error
I am storing a shape object in a session, and somewhere I picked up
that to make sure I can restore the full glory of Shape, I needed
this line in ApplicationController
model :Shape
So, of course, I also have a file /app/models/shape.rb
All was working well, but then I decided I''d rather name the model
MyShape.
So, I

Re-Send - Non-HTML - (Sorry) Samba and Solaris and Linux
Hello everyone,
Just kind of a generalized question, and looking more for caveats than anything else. We're getting ready to implement the latest and greatest release of Samba on one of our Sun servers. Unfortunately, we haven't determined which one yet, but we only have two, so it's not a big deal.
Anyways, I've set up Samba successfully on Linux on multiple occasions, the

Has anyone else seen anything like this?

rsync not prompting for username, only password
Hi guys, can anyone suggest why, when I connect to my rsync server, I'm not
prompted for a username and password but instead I'm only prompted for a
password? I have "auth users = username" set in /etc/rsyncd.conf and a
corresponding entry in /etc/rsyncd.secrets but still rsync only asks for a
password.

strange password problem with rsync
Hi guys, I am experiencing a very strange problem with passwords and
username with rsync.
I have a "auth users" line in my /etc/rsyncd.conf file (see below) and a
corresponding username and password in my /etc/rsyncd.secrets. The strange
thing is is that authentication for the module listed in /etc/rsyncd.conf
(unixadm) only works IF the username in /etc/rsyncd.secrets is the same as

Here's the first part of my Windows set up documentation. This one only

A later document, which will follow in a few days, will cover how to set
up a buildbot slave.
