Wine-Problems
Hi Folks,
I'm using CentOS 4.3 and Wine 0.9.16-2.el4.kb installed with yum.
My Problem: I get only a glimmering WIN-Desktop.
i.e. winecfg starts but not Labels are visible. The Buttons are visible, the
Function of these buttons also works. But I can't use wine because no
Application is startable. Only a 800x600 Window-Desktop appearce (in green
color) - very strong glimmering. And

memdisk - grub2
I've been trying to use memdisk with grub2 to boot some iso images -( I've done this without any
problem with pxe )
There is a memdisk.mod in /boot/grub/ and I've seen some material talking about this, but no example
of a menu.
After trying countless permutations - Right now I have :
menuentry "Memtest-Plus 4.2" {
echo `hello`

Find out the day of week for a chron object?
I know that this is correct:
library(chron)
x = dates("01-03-04", format="d-m-y", out.format="day mon year")
print(x)
It gives me the string "01 Mar 2004" which is correct.
I also know that I can say:
print(day.of.week(3,1,2004))
in which case he says 1, for today is monday.
My question is: How do I combine these two!? :-) I have a

Warhammer + Wine + Macbook
Okay so I stupidly subscribed to Warhammer without checking the minimum requirements a few months ago and was confronted by the lack of Vertex Shader 2.0 on my macbook when running it in Windows. Now I'm looking around again for a workaround, which I'm not thinking is going to... work. But here's my question, would there be anyway that it would work if I installed it using Wine on

Summary on R script editor
Thanks for the advice, folks!
Shravan Vasishth <vasishth at ling.ohio-state.edu>
Try pico.
There's no substitute for/comparison with emacs, though, IMHO.
but just to be sure: you don't have to have ESS to use (x)emacs for
editing R scripts.
Sven Garbade <garbade at psy.uni-muenchen.de>
ESS can be installed via rpm on Mandrake.

Font and Color documentation
Hello R-ians,
Could someone please point me to documentation on legal font and color
specifications (and other 'par' parameters); i.e. font=6 for Times New
Roman, col='Red', etc.? Searches in "?par", MASS (1st ed.) and other
areas were unsuccessful. I thought I remember seeing it
before...somewhere.
Thanks,

wbinfo / NT4 PDC
I'm having a really strange problem with winbind and my NT4 PDC. The
PDC was here before I started working here, so I'm not sure what all
has been done to it. Here's the layout:
* NT4 PDC (no BDC)- Up to date with all service packs and hotfixes.
Running Cyberwall-Plus firewall.
* RHL 7.2 (2.4.9-31custom) with Samba 2.2.4 (compiled from src).
I was able to join the domain. The

knitr version 1.1
Hi,

Unified authentication
...can't
quite convince myself.
Most of my users are Windows types. I want to provide domain
authentication for these users. Using the same auth DB, I want to be
able to authenticate some users to a VPN server using RADIUS. All with
teh same user/password combo.
I've seen glimmers and hints in various doc I've read that it can
be done. Maybe using PAM to force radius to use the smbpass.so module?
Another thought I had was to use MySQL as the backend. But then,
I'm not sure that the passwords would be compatible. They're both
one-way hashs using diffe...

Could you try the following patch? Feel free to only apply the change

Comparing model fits for NLME when models are not nested
Hi there,
I am looking to compare nonlinear mixed effects models that have different nonlinear functions (different types of growth curve)embedded. Most of the literature I can find focuses on comparing nested models with likelihood ratios and AIC. Is there a way to compare model fits when models are not nested, i.e. when the nonlinear functions are not the same?
Many thanks in advance!

Script editor for R on Linux
Hi all,
Could you point me to a script editor in Linux that will allow me to a
somewhat easy pasting of section(s) of an R script or function into
R for execution? Something like WinEdt+RWinEdt macro in R for
Windows?
(My time is a bit pressed. I haven't succeeded in my attempts to
install ESS for XEmacs. No doubt due to my confusion and lack of
competence. I am abandoning it for the
