successfuly configured gjournal on existing filesystems (all UFS). And
then it happened - my system had a power failure. After boot, it
forced me to run fsck manualy. Nothing special, I did it before... But
this time it failed on gjournaled disks.
So, when I was dropped to the single-user shell, I tried:
fsck /dev/ad4s1g.journal
It said:

I typed 'y' and nothing happened. Here is the log:

gmirror+gjournal: unable to boot after crash
Hi,
after one month with gmirror and gjournal running on a 7.0-RELEASE #p2 amd64 (built from latest CVS source), the box hung a couple of times when on high disk load. Finally, while building some port it won't boot for no reason obvious to me.
This is what I get with kernel.geom.mirror.debug=2:

gjournal on 6.x wont build
Hi all,
I was intending on trying out gjournal on a new disk i've added in my
desktop. I had a look to see what the most recent patch provided by
Pawel and found
http://people.freebsd.org/~pjd/patches/gjournal6_20061024.patch
I created the directories as per Pawel's original post
(http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-fs/2006-June/001962.html)
and the patch succeeded with no failed

Possible VFS KPI and KBI breakage on stable/7
There are three sets of changes that would benefit stable/7.
Namely, there are
1. Improvements for the UFS unmount or rw->ro remount, that perform
suspension during the operation.
The changes depend on the the suspension mechanism path,
that introduced the suspension owner, and added new VFS OP
into the mount method table.
This might also fix the hangs with gjournal or

zfs performance on fuse (Linux) compared to other fs
Hi,
ok I know zfs-fuse is still incomplete and performance has not been considered,
but still, before I''m going to use it for my /home I wanted a rough estimate.
Another benchmark already asserted that zfs by itself, on Solaris, is a very fast beast
(http://cmynhier.blogspot.com/2006/05/zfs-benchmarking.html), faster than ext3 on
Linux and also faster than UFS. Interestingly UFS seems

UNEXPECTED SOFT UPDATE INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY

Sep 21 08:57:54 belle fsck: /dev/ad4s1d: UNEXPECTED SOFT UPDATE INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.
Ok, so I ran fsck manually (even with -y), but yet it refuses to clear/fix
whatever to the questions posed as fsck runs. What does this all mean?
Thanks,

[SO]HO Software RAID5 server: which implementation should I choice?
Hello, freebsd-stable.
Does somebody use some software RAID5 on FreeBSD in real production
system?
I want to build storage server for my home: RAW photos, multi-layer
PhotoShop files and FLAC-encoded music consume a lot of space, and
they should be availible both from desktop & notebook.
Also, all photo-content is unique, so I need some insuranse from
single HDD crash. I understand,

Approaching the limit on PV entries, consider increasing either the vm.pmap.shpgperproc or the vm.pmap.pv_entry_max sysctl.
Hello,
I have a FreeBSD 7.0-STABLE amd64 box which gives this message with apache 2.2
very often. Previously the contents of the box was on 6.3-STABLE x86 and I had
no such problems. This started right away when we moved to 7, 64bit.

Freebsd 7.0-RELEASE-p3 panics
Hello,
I've been having spurrious crash troubles with this box a while now
and I haven't been able to figure out why. I've ran a couple memtest
passes on it and it didn't pick up anything. Here's a backtrace I've
been able to obtain. The kernel config is at the end. It's the generic
kernel with ULE. I'm following chapter 11 of the developers' handbook,

wpi driver freeze on boot
I've got a HP dv8000 laptop. Setting up the wpi driver for wireless freezes
the system on boot with the following error:
wpi0 requested unsupported memory range
wpi0: could not allocate memory resource
It lists a pcbi device (pcbi4 i think) and an actual memory range, but since I
have to reboot using kernel.old the /var/run/dmesg.boot is wiped with the
info. Is there anyway to grab the

High system in %system load .
Hello
Got strange problem with high system "%system load" and very slow user level
programs (apache+php+mysql) behavior
gstat shows 1.5-4% hard disk busy load but system shows about 20-30% load
while user load is max 5%.
vmstat shows from 2 to 35 process in "b" state.
Now use 7.0-RELEASE-p5 , but the same problem was with 7.0-RELEASE.
And have no idea what to do with this.

IPMI Console: No luck once OS is booted
I have a current RELENG_7 running on:
http://www.supermicro.com/products/system/4U/7045/SYS-7045B-TR+.cfm
with the -3+ IPMI card.
I can interact with the BIOS, etc, but no joy once we get past the loader.
Anyone have ideas?
Attached is the kernel config, and the /var/run/dmesg.boot file.

ZFS Scalability/performance
Hello,
I''m quite interested in ZFS, like everybody else I suppose, and am about
to install FBSD with ZFS.
On that note, i have a different first question to start with. I
personally am a Linux fanboy, and would love to see/use ZFS on linux. I
assume that I can use those ZFS disks later with any os that can
work/recognizes ZFS correct? e.g. I can install/setup ZFS in FBSD, and
later use

FreeBSD 7-STABLE, isp(4), QLE2462: panic & deadlocks
Hello everybody,
we recently got three Dell PowerEdge servers equipped with Qlogic
QLE2462 cards (dual FC 4Gbps ports) and an EMC CLARiiON CX3-40 SAN.
The servers with the FC cards were successfully and extensively
tested with an older SUN StorEdge T3 SAN.
However, when we connect them to the CX3-40, create and mount a new
partition and then do something as simple as "tar -C /san -xf
