monorepo: bad performance when using gitk / git log
Hi! Anyone else experiencing performance problems when using the new monorepo? My experience is that performance of gitk (and git log) sometimes is really bad when working in the monorepo. I've mainly seen it when using gitk on specific files/directories, but since gitk seems to be using "git log --no-color -z --pretty=raw --show-notes --parents --boundary HEAD -- <file>" it is possible to observ...

Regression test - bad rev input
Hi, I have been trying to do a regression test between 1.1.10 and 1.1.12, as there seems to be a number of problems with the installation of the Macromedia suite (Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash). I think I have ccache installed. I think I have git OK. I run git bisect start ok, Then when I run git bisect good wine 1.1.10, I get: Bad rev input: wine 1.1.10. What am I doing wrong?

I used this one: git clone git://git.zytor.com/syslinux/syslinux.git syslinux-git That should be the mentioned master branch? Cheers Conrad

Experimenting with Git and GitHub
...nt tags, I tagged the Git commit which immediately precedes each SVN tag. This allows for easy identification of when a given commit was released. For instance, if someone wants to know when support for "Mustek Yukai PowerMust 1000" was added (SVN r2900), you could search for that text in gitk, and see that it is between tags v2.6.0 and v2.6.1 (meaning that 2.6.1 was the first supported release). Some of the power of GitHub isn't obvious until you see a project which has several active "forks" (git clones which are also stored on GitHub). The BuildBot network is IMHO a goo...

git workflow, redux
Summary: I have tried the packaging-only repo and I really don't like it at all. I don't know how anyone copes with this - such hard work! IMO we should switch to git-debrebase. (As an alternative, if you don't trust git-debrebase because it's my own tool, gbp pq would be better, too, even though it's not as good as git-debrebase.) Particularly, now that we have more people

Stereo AEC, transition to Git
...he latest version of Speex. For those not familar with git, here's how to "checkout" (clone in Git's terms) the repository: git clone http://git.xiph.org/speex.git And to update with the latest changes, simply do: git pull You can also visualise the development using the "gitk" tool. Whenever I figure out how to do it, I might setup a "fake CVS server" from which to checkout the git repo and/or automate the copying of the git tree to the current svn. Any help with that would be appreciated. Cheers, Jean-Marc

referring to earlier SVN commits
...as going through the old SVN commits, but even if not, I think it will make things clearer. Eric also suggests using a VCS-agnostic "action stamp" format to refer to commits, but I think it's a little verbose, and at the moment, only reposurgeon can parse them (specifically, Trac and gitk are blissfully unaware of them). I have a patch for reposurgeon that tries to address the readability issue - more on that later. From the reposurgeon manual: > An action stamp is an RFC3339 timestamp, followed by a '!', followed by a committer email address, followed by ':' an...
