[OT] Good Gigabit Ethernet Card ...
Greetings ...
I hate to ask these questions, but I dought I will get a straight
answer from an Salesmen ...
I am looking at putting gigabit in as a back bone for a few Linux
servers, but I have used an Accton Gigabit ethernet card with RedHat
8.0/9 and found it a little unstable ... do and RedHat users have a
suggestion on a good, but not expensive Gigabit card, basicly for a
Samba server(s).
Thanks

Gigabit Samba
I'm trying to run Samba on a gigabit network.
On the server side I've got Samba 2.2.1 running on an sgi Origin200 with a
gigabit ethernet card plugged into a gigabit switch, and the files are being
served off a fibrechannel raid array. On the client side I have a windows 2k
box with a gigabit card plugged into the same switch....

Weird Samba upload performance on Gigabit network
Here's a weird one that may have nothing to do with Samba and more to
do with network frame sizes.
I have recently upgraded the network infrastructure to support
gigabit speeds.
- OSX Tiger to OSX Tiger file transfers operate at gigabit speeds.
- Samba 3.0.23C (Suse 10) to OSX Tiger file transfers operate at
gigabit speeds.
- BUT OSX Tiger to Samba 3.0.23C (Suse 10) file transfers operate at
1-2meg/second which is well down from expected performance.
The stra...

10/100 voip phones and gigabit connection
...n to something while
going through the shopping list.
i noticed that a lot of VOIP phones have a double network interface
allowing you to use only 1 LAN cable for both the phone and your
desktop, a really nice feature that can save a lot of cable, but most
are 10/100 connections while i have a gigabit network. Off course there
are phones available with a Gigabit connection but these are at least 3
to 4 times as expensive.
another option would be to have both desktop and voip phone each a
dedicated line ( basically having 2 seperate networks ), already have
these in place from the old/curren...

gigabit networks and kernel loads
I have been using pxelinux with Intel 850 1.7 Ghz P4 motherboards using
10/100 ethernet switches for about a year in a multichannel visual
generation system. We are shifting to SuperMicro P4SAA 2.8 Ghz P4
motherboards with onboard gigabit ethernet and gigabit ethernet
switches. Put are hung up because the diskless slave nodes will not load
the (Linux) kernel from the master 2.8 Ghz computer.
Everything seems to be fine up to the kernel load. The diskless node
does a PXE boot and requests DHCP data from master. Pxelinux.0 loads and...

How to set up real network cards?
I have a hardware here with 9 NICs (8 of them on-board)
and I want to set up 8 NICs as real network interfaces,
one for each xen domain. The 9th NIC should be Domain-0
which is working well. Currently I have only set up
one domain which is running in bridged mode at the moment.
I am currently trying to set up a second domain which
uses eth2 but I didn''t succeed. I want to get the

Is Gigabit Ethernet necessary?
For an office that is using VoIP phones to connect to Asterisk, is gigabit
ethernet really necessary for the Asterisk box to connect to the switch? I
know that I won't even approach the limits of 100 Mbps, but would gigabit
help with latency / collisions when several calls are underway? The fact
is, anything going outside the office will be over a data T1, so intu...

virtual gigabit
Is there anyway to get gigabit networking for a fully virtualized
guest? I''ve tried searching for this one, but all I get are results
about gigabit networking for the host / dom0, nothing for domU.
Thanks,
Gordon

1MB/s gigabit transfers on dell poweredge
Hi,
I have installed samba on a dell poweredge server. It uses integrated
NetXtreme II BCM5708 Gigabit Ethernet card. My issue is that i am getting
extremely slow speeds (about 1.2MB/s) on the gigabit network from linux as
well as windows clients using when reading from the samba share.
On the same setup (same server, client, network) using scp, rsync, nfs gives
me anything between 35-50 MB/s. So I k...

Samba Gigabit very very slow?
Hi!
I?m having trubbles with the speed on my samba server,
I just uppgraded to gigabit (Realtek 8169 NIC) at home when i copy stuff from the samba server i get around 5-6Mb/sec
and if i use ftp to access the same file on the same server i get almost 30Mb/sec does anyone have a clue what causes this problem? When i used my old 3com 905c for the local net i got normal 100Mbit speed (ar...

Grandstream GXP2140
Hi Everyone.
I have a customer looking to deploy about 20 Grandstream GXP2140 phones. Normally they would deploy Yealink brand phones but they want a phone with gigabit pass through and the Yealinks with gigabit are too expensive for their budget.
Does anyone on the list have experience with the GXP2140? Is it a reliable phone? Does anyone have recommendations for other phones with gigabit pass through?
Regards,
Patrick.

Anything else I can provide to help debug?
