smbfs makes other processes hang
...mputer goes down. There are two ways this could happen. In the first case, which is the "good" way for this to happen, I mount a share from a computer and after a while this computer stops sharing this device or folder. I will demonstrate with my two computers, the first one is the Linux (giga), from which I try to mount a share on my second computer (giga2), a XP computer. They are connected over a local network with a 100 megabits link. The lines that start with '>' are copied directly from the Linux terminal. > [root@Giga root]# smbmount //giga2/public sambamount >...

problem with split eating giga-bytes of memory
I'm having trouble using split on a very large data-set with ~1400 levels of the factor to be split. Unfortunately, I can't reproduce it with the simple self-contained example below. As you can see, splitting the artificial dataframe of size ~13MB results in a split dataframe of ~ 144MB, with an increase memory allocation of ~10 fold for the split object. If split scales linearly, then my

Bringing dbf Data With SQL
...QL statements. Like: I want columns 1, 4, 5 and only when column 4 > 30. Sorry asking it here instead of keep searching in manuals, but it seems that there are too many ways of doing it. So what's the appropriate package that I need to work it, considering also that im dealing with lots of gigas so the faster way, better. I would really appreciate helps Thanks since now -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Bringing-dbf-Data-With-SQL-tp25808277p25808277.html Sent from the R help mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

help, glusterfs test caused very high tcp segment retransmission rate
Hi, I found the aggregated IO speed is only about 100MB/s on 4 Giga-bit Brick. This test is done over 12 computing nodes with command dd if=/dev/zero of=bar bs=1048576 count=20480. Because our brick has very fast local IO speed, the problem could be network. Then I found computing nodes got too many retransmited segments during test according to netstat -st. Th...

performance on small files transfers
Hi all, I'm confused of small files (no bigger than 50k ) transfers speed through samba, which is very slow on my machine. Bellow is a real case, -- SuSE professional 9.2, kernel 2.6.11,Samba 3.0.14a,reiserfs -- Dual AMD Opteron,4G mem,Giga byte LAN -- 2 raid 5 make up of 16 SATA hard disks -- set readhead to 1024 I tested raids speed using bonnie++ and get 450 Mbytes/s at 16GB files measure. So I believe the raid is not the bottleneck.I wrote a script to get 200,000 small files no more than 50K,totally size 8G.When I wrote these...

Response time on Tinc VPNs, Bandwith on Tinc-VPN
Hello, response time: how is it possible to increase the response time on Tinc VPNs. When I use tinc over a fast or giga-bit network connection the ping-response time is normally about 1800 to 2000 ms. Sometimes I get ping response times at about 2.500 to 3.000 ms over a normal Ethernet Connection or a television-cable connection within the same providers-network in the same city. The ping-time on the underlaying net...

OT: NIC
Folks, I'm trying to add a network interface card to my SUSE 9.3 box, and I'm not having much luck with a US Robotics version. What manufacturer do any of you use in your machines--either 10/100MB or GigE NIC? Assuming "nics" and "switches" means, I should check my hardware? Well, nics and switches are new, (3com Giga Switch and Intel Giga nics), working pretty well, as the ftp test (below) shows. Don't think it's a hardware problem. And "logs might help": they are my best bet! But where to look? I found additional infos in my logs - see at end! > i have a equal setup but no such big files...

ZFS+ config for 8 drives, mostly reads
...laris install forum as well about the fileserver I''m building for media files but wanted to ask more specific questions about zfs here. The setup is 8x500GB SATAII drives to start and down the road another 4x750 SATAII drives, the machine will mostly be doing reads and streaming data over GigaE. -I''m under the impression that ZFS+(ZFS2) is similar to RAID6, so for the initial 8x500GB two drives would be sucked into parity so I''d have a 3TB volume with the ability to lose two discs, no? -I can''t add discs to the RAIDz volume so in the future for the 4x750 I'...

Locked files stay locked - copy operation from XP to Samba fails
...evel2 oplocks = no in smb.conf When I check before starting the copy operation with smbstatus no files are locked. When starting the copy the three offending files are locked and stay locked. Could this be related to my other problem with the Realtek 8139 and 3com2000T? Someone suggested that the giga NIC was just too fast. I checked with 3com905B and C cards and they have the same problem, so should I revert to the old NIC in the Samba server or are there some tweaks I could try? Any suggestions are welcome!
