I use postfix. The folder name is still uppercase when forwarded to dovecot, as
can be seen in /var/log/mail.log.

Not directly an answer to your question, but we had so many problems with the certbot in different constellations, that we moved to
https://github.com/acmesh-official/acme.sh
which works just fine basically everywhere
