rpc.statd: gethostbyname error for ...
Hi, Lately, the system log on my CentOS 5 box, with all the latest updates, have started filling up with messages of the form: Jan 24 09:47:26 i58524 rpc.statd[3452]: gethostbyname error for i58524 Jan 24 09:47:26 i58524 rpc.statd[3452]: STAT_FAIL to i58524 for SM_MON of 10.30.39.59 Jan 24 09:47:26 i58524 kernel: lockd: cannot monitor 10.30.39.59 It does not seem like there is really anything wrong with the hosts setup, though - the gethostbyname call in question works app...

Dovecot & gethostbyname() vulnerability
So just a quick note: Dovecot in general doesn't do DNS lookups, except the ones in configuration files and such. So I don't think there are any Dovecot setups which do DNS lookups for untrusted hostnames. Also, gethostbyname() is used only if IPv6 support isn't compiled into Dovecot. And IPv6 support is enabled by default if the libc is detected to support it, so pretty much all systems use it.

thread safe functions missing ... ?
Can anyone comment on the following results from running a test program we've writen for PostgreSQL? Should the following be thread-safe, either as themselves, or a different function we should be calling? Your gethostbyname() is _not_ thread-safe Your getpwuid() is _not_ thread-safe

Glibc sources?
All, Please excuse any ignorance in this e-mail as I am not a RH/CentOS/Fedora user and may blunder my way through the correct terminology for my request. I'm tasked with reconstructing the CentOS version of the GlibC library for testing with gethostbyname(). My mission is to show that we are not affected by the latest exploit for the product we are shipping targeted for RHEL and CentOS. To do so, I want to equip gethostbyname() with additional code. My objective is to rebuild from source the EXACT version of GlibC for CentOS 6.6. Afterwards, I wi...

CVE-2015-0235 - glibc gethostbyname
Hi, For reasons which are too tiresome to bore you all with, I have an obligation to look after a suite of legacy CentOS 4.x systems which cannot be migrated upwards. I note on https://access.redhat.com/articles/1332213 the following comment from a RHN person: >We are currently working on and testing errata for RHEL 4, we will >post an update for it as soon as it's ready. gethostbyname clarification
I have an issue, although it's a result of sketchy code in the sip implementation in Asterisk that's been around forever, I am sure I am going to have to fix it some other way as many people have waited with no fix yet from Digium. If a name resolution fails for a remote sip peer, the entire stack tanks and local sip phones don't work either. We have several sip trunks and an analog

unix gethostbyname for WINS
I know this has been discussed; but I can't seems to find the answer on the digest server. Can/How do I provide WINS name resolution for unix machine names ? We are using WINS on the PC side and /etc/hosts on the unix side. I would like to have a unix machine respond to WINS queries when it finds the requested name in it's host file. I have experimented with 'wins proxy',

WINS capabilities
...another matter. I've got 17+K desktops and the host naming convention is not supported by our DNS. Our telecomm engineer and DNS keeper said that our only hope was name to address resolution by WINS. Sounds good, but I noted in the diagnostics procedures that I had to enable the usual gethostbyname() name to address resolution before moving on to NetBIOS name resolution. I need to supplant gethostbyname() with WINS. The specifics of doing that within Tivoli are beyond the scope of this list and I'm not asking for that type of advice. What I do need though, is some technique/whateve...

Help with using the WINEDEBUG variable
