iostat and monitoring
Hi gurus,
I like zpool iostat and I like system monitoring, so I setup a script
within sma to let me get the zpool iostat figures through snmp.
The problem is that as zpool iostat is only run once for each snmp
query, it always reports a static set of figures, like so:
root at exodus:snmp # zpool iostat -v
capacity operations bandwidth
pool used avail read

Best practices for zpools on zfs
...been done to identify the performance characteristics in
this area?
Is there less to be concerned about from a performance standpoint if
the workload is primarily read?
To maximize the efficacy of dedup, would it be best to pick a fixed
block size and match it between the layers of zfs?

[Bug 212] Add netgroup support to ssh-keyscan
http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=212
------- Additional Comments From Michael.Gerdts at alcatel.com 2002-04-11 00:33 -------
This patch also changes the behavior of ssh-keyscan when a hostname does not
resolve. I have changed the condition from fatal() to error() so that the scan
does not quit when it runs across a bad hostname.

space allocation vs. thin provisioning
...velopers to allow the file system to tell the storage array
"this range of blocks is unused" so that the array can reclaim
the space? I could see this as useful when doing re-writes of
data (e.g. crypto rekey) to concentrate data that had become
scattered into contiguous space.

Samba vs Sun automounter
A moderately-frequently asked question is "why do automounted
directories in shares disappear?"
The old answers were:
1) they timed out and auto-un-mounted, and
2) you shouldn't re-export NFS-imported stuff anyway.
A new answer (0) was just suggested by a Sun techie: add
a "browse" option to the automounter map entry, to make
them appear even when they're not

Archiving and Restoring Snapshots
...-d -c /var/tmp/thursday.snap.gz | zfs receive -F pool/thursday
=== End quote ===
There have been several threads on this list saying not to do that.
It seems that this guide aimed at new users is inviting people to do
things that will lead them to unsympathetic ears if things go poorly.

file change long - was zfs fragmentation
...unctionality would come in very handy. It would seem that it
isn''t too big of a deal to identify the files that changed, as this
type of data is already presented via "zpool status -v" when
corruption is detected.

Looking for help on 2 items...
I am pretty new to Dtrace but use the Dtrace Toolkit when trying to
troubleshoot I/O issues
On Oracle.
I am looking for help on how to do the following:
I am trying to answer whether adding more HBA Cards/ports
would be effective.
To do this, I need to know the i/o''s per second
As well as total bandwidth per second.
Has anyone done this before?
Does anyone have any other ideas on how

status of zfs boot netinstall kit
I wanted to send out status on the effort to make a
version of Solaris install available that supports zfs
as a root file system. I''ve got a version of it ready
for distribution, but I''d like to test it on the Build 62
community release before I make it available.
Without the build 62 community release, I have to
test it on a build 61 image, updated with some build 62
packages.

FW: samba woes
All,
I have been working on a component that is included with samba called SMBSH. The binary allows you to automount your NT shares by accessing your profile . I have been working on this for the last
few days and have been unsuccesful at getting it work. Now I am not much of a programmer, but I did my best to try and troubleshoot this. However it just does not want to work in Linux. I

ZFS and Live Upgrade
Is there any update/work-around/patch/etc as of the S10u4 WOS for the bugs that existed with respect to LU, Zones, and ZFS? More specifically, the following:
6359924 live upgrade needs to include support for zfs
I can''t even find that bug ID on bugs.opensolaris.org (or via sunsolve when I''m logged in for that matter) anymore. Basically, one couldn''t put zoneroot on
