Proper way to call variables from a parent class to a child class
I currently have a child class of a parent one. The parent defines
some variable that I need to use in the child class. I am also using
gepetto. Gepetto is complaining about the syntax of the child variable.
It is saying that "$parentVar" should be "$::parentVar" however, when
changing to what Gepetto wants to use this breaks my classes. Does anyone
know the proper method of doing this? Currently the "$paren...

Profiles, Hiera, and create_resources('class','...')
Hi all,
We''ve recently started exploring the role / profile / component module
described by Craig Dunn in his blog here:
http://www.craigdunn.org/2012/05/239/ and discussed on the list the other
day. As I was implementing this for
a profile using the apache module, I realized that I could make another
refinement to our approach by using

Puppet syntax check for Komodo Edit
Hi folks,
Recently I''ve been using a MacBook Pro (Lion) as a workstation, I''m
feeling good even if still missing some tool (coming from Ubuntu
environment).
I''d like to have a cross platform IDE with basic Puppet syntax
highlight, so far the one that seems to better fit my needs is Komodo
Edit v7, that is mentioned here:

I concur. You might have missed the IRC chatter when I was having
issue with getting the config off the server. Misplaced commas were
causing the problem, but puppet was merely throwing a warning that the
local cache would be used. Maybe gepetto knows the pastie?

removing http headers
...I am doing this is that I need to save as much bytes as
possible, as this request will be sent in a mobile environment, and each
byte sent is "expensive". I am also in control of the client making the
request, so there won''t be trouble reading the answer.
Any clues?
Thank you,
Gepetto

Virtual resource not found
Hi All,
I asked on IRC but didn''t have everything organized and most people
seemed busy. Hoping someone can see what I''m missing here.
I''m trying to create a network module, used similar to the ''users''
configuration described in the Best Practices document. I have a users
module which has that and it works with similar syntax to below. If I

What do YOU do to catch undefined variables
I''m still a puppet newbie and these days I''m struggling with undefined
variables. At least once a week I hit an error message like this:
Error: Failed to apply catalog: '''' is not qualified and no path was
specified. Please qualify the command or specify a path.
IMO, the core issue is that Puppet has no mechanism for reporting read
attempts on

Making the new users experience easier
Just one more email and I''ll let you go for a few hours :)
One of the things I like to see in apps is that they are immediately
intuitive and easy to use for new users. I think Puppet is really good
here, but there''s opportunity to make everything better. We want
everyone to love Puppet from their first few minutes using it, all the
way through to datacenter nirvana.

Template Nodes considered harmful
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi Russ, Digant, *!
Several times on the IRC channel I noticed people having problems getting to
grips with the interaction of scopes when using template nodes[1]. Typically
this looks thus:
| node genericwebserver { stuff }
|
| node ''web01.example.com'' inherits genericwebserver {
| $influence_genericwebserver =
