Coordinate systems for geostatistics in R
...unning an analysis on the data gives different results depending on which type of system you use, so I want to make sure I have the correct system. I should also probably note that I am a geostatistical novice! kriging in R
Hi, all, Have anyone used kringing included in R? How is it? Does it handle anisotropy data well? How does it compare with Kriging in Arc/Info? or other geostatistics software customized to do kriging or other geostatistics functions? I tried Easykriging, a geostatistics tool developed for Matlab. It has very nice GUI, but it does not provide library which i can call in my programs. so it is good for doing it mannually for small number of data set. but if i hav...

[S] Gstat: multivariable geostatistics for S (R and S-Plus)
...s released under the GPL in 1996; the original stand-alone program is closely linked to several GIS systems. Gstat was not initially written for teaching purposes, but for research purposes, emphasizing flexibility, scalability and portability. It can deal with a large number of practical issues in geostatistics, including change of support (block kriging), simple/ordinary/universal (co)kriging, fast local neighbourhood selection, flexible trend modelling, variables with different sampling configurations, and efficient simulation of large spatially correlated random fields, indicator kriging and simulation...

Modules for using geostatistics for image classification
Hello everyone! I am using GRASS with spgrass6 for my work. I will be using variograms in the process of landsat image classification. I am quite ok with GRASS but am finding R really tough. I understand that spgrass6 is a link between GRASS and R which can read and write raster/vector layers. Out of really many packages in R, for generating variograms out of landsat images which packages of R

How to make an orderly matrix from geostatistical data?
Hi everybody, I used the krige.conv command (geoR package) to create a new data set. The input was a matrix with three spatial coordinates (x, y, z) in the first three columns and the value of a variable in the last column. The output is... a weird sequence of numbers. How can I make this output into the same format as the input, i.e. a nice matrix with three columns of coordinates and a last

H-scatter plot in geostatistics
Hello: I would like to make h-scatter plot. My data looks like as follow: x, y, z, 12.0, 11.2, 12, 10.21, 5.42, 8, 5.12, -8.25, 7, .... I want to make h-scatter plot for the z values by difference distance h from 1 to 20. There are 1023 observations. Do I need to change data class from data-frame to others? I am not sure we can make h-scatter plot in R. Have a nice day. HongSU.

Coordinate systems for geostatistics in R (imicola)

Thus you will need the rgdal package in complement (it actually includes spTransform). This function is extremely convenient: you can manage coordinate transformations extremely easily

Using R in combination with GRASS for image classification
Hello everybody! For my academic project work I intend to use only open-source software. My objective is to carry out classification of satellite digital images using Geostatistics. I found out GRASS is a good software for image processing. Also a good geostatistics software is R. It is also known that R can be used in combination with GRASS. But I am not able to confirm that satellite digital image classification can be carried out using geostatistical analysis with GRASS in...

split dataset randomly in prediction and validation set
For a geostatistical analysis, I would like to split my dataset randomly into 2 parts: a prediction set (with 2/3 of my data) and a validation set (with 1/3 of my data). Both datasets will thus contain different data. Any suggestions? [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

LIDAR Problem in R (THANKS for HELP)
Hi All, I am a PhD student in forestry science and I am working with LiDAR data set (huge data set). I am a brand-new in R and geostatistic (SORRY, my background it?s in forestry) but I wish improve my skill for improve myself. I wish to develop a methodology to processing a large data-set of points (typical in LiDAR) but there is a problem with memory. I had created a subsample data-base but

Packages
I need to install some geostatistics packages that are not in the binaries, for example gstat. I downloaded rm171 and installed, and I even added precomplied packages successfully. Unfortunately, I do not know how to add packages available as gstat. If you can spare a minute, could you give me a lead on this? Any other pointers on usi...

AIC and significance tests
Hi I have two geostatistical models from geoR. An ordinary kriging model with AIC=-148.6 and a universal kriging model with AIC=-156.7, there are 345 data points. The improvement shown by the AIC by adding a trend component to the model seems quite small given the number of data points, is there a test to see if the improvement to the model fit is significant? Thanks David

Changing Colors
Hello, I've got a big problem. I'm using R for geostatistical analyses, especially the field-package. I try to generate plots after the kriging process with help of image.plot(..., col=terrain.colors, ...). Everything works fine, but I want to reverse the color-palettes (heat.colors, topo.colors or gray()) to get darkest colors at highest data-values instead the other way round. Could
