Custom CentOS5 DVD
...of that).
I've googled around and tried various suggestions on the net:
http://sipx-wiki.calivia.com/index.php/A_Kickstart_CD_for_sipX_on_CentOS
http://cablemodem.fibertel.com.ar/lateral/stories/38.html
However, I have not been able to find step by step instructions for CentOS5.
For example, genhdlist has been deprecated. Also, the centos-release-5.0.0 rpm
grabs a new GPG key from the net, even though an identical one is already on
the DVD. This creates problems on custom DVD's I've created thus far; I'd
like to have an unattended install that doesn't require a network connecti...

Kickstart-based Install, editing comps.xml, hdlist/hdlist2

newer and updated packages/RPMs so that I don't have to run an update
process on the newly installed machine. My understanding is, if this is
done, a new base/hdlist{2} file{s} is/are needed to be created. I've
read around a bit, and apparently I'm supposed to use a tool named
"genhdlist", but I've not been able to find any documentation on this
tool, what exactly it does, and how exactly to use it.
I'm expressing my frustration, along with many other people who have
been in the same situation, as seen from the kickstart-list.
I guess what I'm asking for, is if s...

Attempting custom CentOS4 network install
...es like
"Kernel-Development group not found" warning, the process is smooth and is
almost completely automated.
Now, I want to add additional RPMS to the CentOS/RPMS directory to install
additional packages in the default install. In preparation, I was regenerating
the hdlist using "genhdlist" even before adding the extra RPMS, just to
checkout.
A new hdlist and hdlist2 is sucessfully regenerated in CentOS/base dir with a
small reduction in file size of hdlist, but the network install fails at the
end of "Preparing RPM transaction" screen with the message "install e...

Install challenges
As mentioned in my previous post I just completed a rebuild on my new
dns/mail server. And it was almost a disaster.
When loading from CDs I would get a dialog that an rpm could not be
found, perhaps bad media. I would pop out the CD, click OK and
things continued. Until finally it would not. I had two copies of
the CDs and neither worked!
So I happened to have the CDs on my web server

Most efficient way to create a CentOS 3 test VM
I'm about to create a new CentOS 3 VM for testing, since we still have a
bunch of deployed machines running that OS.
(Don't yell at me about using old OSes. These machines won't get
"un-deployed" until they fall over dead of natural causes. Until the
last one dies, we need test and build VMs around to service them.)
I have the CentOS 3.9 *.iso files plus a local cache
