Server advice for RoR for newbies
Hello,
I am fairly new to Ruby and deployment. Have started creating a some apps
and going through tutorials, etc. I am thinking about buying my own server
like a HP ProLiant DL380e Gen8 Server<http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/de/de/sm/WF25a/15351-15351-3328412-241475-241475-5261094.html> to
host and deploy my own web app which is a project management database where
externals and internals can track projects and upload or download files

CentOS on HP DL360e with B120i
I am trying to install CentOS5 on a new HP DL360e G8 with B120i disk
controller. It appears that a proprietary HP driver is needed for it.
I found a useful description at http://www.linuxhelp.in/2013/08/Installing-centos-on-HP-Proliant-DL360e-Gen8-with-B120i-controller.html
I have a pair of hard drives to use as a RAID1 mirror.
My question to people who may have been this way already is: is it worth
my fiddling around with that procedure to get the RAID controller working,
performance-wise, or might I just as well use AHCI mode with kernel...

Re: P2V conversion failed with "/run/lvm/lvmetad.socket: connect failed: No such file or directory"
Greetings Richard,
To add to the above information, we are following the understated steps:
1. We have 2 BL460c (Gen8) with Fedora 21 installed. Both the
machines(BL1 & BL2) have been updated with virt-v2v packages
2. On BL1, we execute the following commands:
1. virt-p2v-make-kickstart fedora
2. livecd-creator p2v.ks
3. After creating the "livecd-p2v-2xxxxxx.iso" file, we launch th...

After "Start Conversion" from GUI interface, we are conversion fails with
"/run/lvm/lvmetad.socket: connect failed: No such file or directory" Error.
Logs are attached for more details. Also FYI, we are using BL460c Gen8
server.
Any help will be appreciated.

BAD disk I/O performance
...;m trying to convert my physical web servers to a virtual guest. What i'm
experiencing is a poor disk i/o, compared to the physical counterpart
(having strace telling me that each write takes approximately 100 times the
time needed on physical).
Tested hardware is pretty good (HP Proliant 360p Gen8 with 2xSAS 15k rpm 48
Gb Ram).
The hypervisor part is a minimal Centos 6.5 with libvirt.
The guest is configured using: VirtIO as disk bus, qcow2 storage format
(thick allocation), cache mode: none (needed for for live migration - this
could be changed if is the bottleneck), IO mode: default.

Hi the number of cpu cores that you see with top times 512Mbyte is the
level of ram that's needed
e.g. a hp-gen8 with 2 octo core cpu's and hyperthreading enabled will be
( 2 x 8 x 2 x 0,5 gb ) = 16 gb + a bit exstra.
So from start memory usage increases until it reaches 17.3 gb and then
stabilizes. at that level.
You can disables hypertreading and cut your ram usage to half of that.
I can't see...

We're going to need a bit more information about the hardware
in the physical server, like what 'RAID 0' means - hardware RAID?
What precise RAID controller

Just an interesting data point
SO, my full load on my core UPS is two Dell R610s, one Sun X4540, one HP
DL360p gen8, two six-core Thuban-II workstations plua their monitors,
and the network stack and KVM.
The APC SU3000RM (3KVA) that blew up last week considered this to be
just short of 60% load.
The new Cyberpower PR3000 (also 3KVA), wqhich operates at a 90% power
factor, considers this same load to be 43% loa...
