What steps to take
Hi list I'm attempting to list windows shared printers in Unix. That's really all that I need and I can't install Samba on the machine I need to list the shared printers from. I started analyzing the smbclient code hoping to extract the necessary info but as you all know it's a daunting task. Certainly for a C novice. Which is why I want to ask if there is anyone out there who

Share Access
Could someone help me understand if what I'm seeing with share access is correct? On my samba domain I have two users (user1 and user2) and one share; the share has attribute "writelist = user1". On a linux machine I: mount the share with "mount -t cifs -o username=user1" successfully open a file in the share for writing with the perl "open" function

problem starting Visual dBASEv 5.7
I'm running Debian/Wheezey (testing) which uses the rather old Wine v1.0.1. This is on an AMD64 machine. I was able to install Borland's Visual dBASE without any problems but when I start it, or any application developed with it, I get an error message in an Alert box on top of the startup splash screen that reads: Error: Printer error. When I click OK, the application exits. The command

Now I get an ""unable to enumerate objects in container" error. Strangely I can actually get into some folders (owned by garydale:HOME\Domain Users) but not others with the same ownership.

Problems adding a printer share
I have added an HP Deskjet 600 to my debian etch system, using CUPS. It is working fine. I would like to set it up so that I can occassionally print to it from a Windows 9x machine. This is where I seem to be having trouble. I consulted the HOW-TO docs on the samba site, but they are quite detailed and confusing (for me). I don't want to do anything that will cause the printer to work

...s or :HOME\Domain Users? You seem to be obsessing over the fact that my Linux account doesn't authenticate to the AD but the situation I'm describing is entirely between the Samba DC, the Samba file server and a Windows 10 client that is logged in variously as HOME\Administrator or HOME\garydale (which is in the HOME\Domain Admins group). By flipping the ownership of a share between root and garydale, I can get access to it from my Linux workstation when needed. However it is set to root when I'm trying to get access from Windows and that isn't working. The fact that I find it...
