Duplicate group mappings - which ones to delete?
I'm using Samba 3.0.21b on Debian linux using a tdbsam database as a PDC for domain ADADOM. I have a problem with duplicate group mappings and need to delete some, however, I don't know which one is being used. Is there a way I can find out which ones have no users assigned to them? Here's the sorted output of "net groupmap list". The last three are the issue. I only

Re: Moving samba PDC to new machine (unable to change domain SID)
So, I followed these directions and got errors in log.nmbd regarding "domain_master_node_status_fail". There were still entries for the old server's ip address in connections.tdb, gencache.tdb, locking.tdb and sessionid.tdb, so I stopped samba, deleted them and restarted. All was well. I then changed the SID using "net setlocalsid

Moving samba PDC to new machine (same name?)
I'm using a tdbsam database with Samba 3.0.11 on a machine that's getting a little long in the tooth. I'd like to move the whole deal to a new machine without any reconfiguring on the clients - I'm happy with a little downtime - out of office hours the system is hardly used anyway. I'd like to upgrade to 3.0.21c at the same time. I'm thinking: 1. backup domain data on

Weird XP synchronisation issue. Using old cached IP?
First, a little background: I successfully migrated the samba PDC funtionality from an old Suse machine to a new debian-based one. The old machine was named PHOENIX and had an ip address of 10.10.10.4. The new one has the same name but is on 10.10.10.14. Everything is working just fine with this new domain (authentication, adding users, computers, printing etc), except for one laptop. Since the

You say #nothing... I say "Hello. Hello! Hello?" Moving forward with this will stop this violence, it will also stop murder, and then death. (... in that order)
<cursi.ve.lamc.la> You are in The Matrix <http://isiti.gq/lists/lt.php?id=YUgNAAVdGAFSXB1QWlQKVF0F> . That's a significantly better thing than implied by the movie, but it's a good introduction to the reason for Creation, and why we are here trying to help an entire civilization transition from ?simulated reality? to Heaven. The New Testament is our guide, and seeing it's

Changed name of domain - accounts have old name
I'm using samba 3.0.11 on Suse 9.2. smb.conf is at the end of this post. I created a samba pdc with domain name, "gamidom". This I subsequently changed to "phoenix" (the same as the server's netbios name). Tried to add a win2k machine to the domain and got an error regarding the domain/server name being the same so I changed the name of the domain in smb.conf to

net getdomainsid returns two SIDs - how to remove one?
Hi, How can I remove the "domain PHOENIX" SID from the PDC? It was a test domain I had set up before this machine went live around 18 months ago. I believe this is the issue that's causing me to have problems migrating this PDC to a new machine. This is the output from the current PDC: phoenix:/ # net getlocalsid SID for domain PHOENIX is: S-1-5-21-3597458131-155160113-1223051555

Not using CUPS. How much can I strip from smb.conf?
I'm not using CUPS for printing, instead clients have local printers and are using Windows' printer sharing. Can I assume it's safe to completely remove the following from smb.conf, or do I need to replace it with something: [global] printcap name = cups printing = cups [printers] comment = All Printers path = /var/spool/samba printer admin = root, smbadmin

Migrating from NT4 to samba (do I still need a domain?)
We have a couple of NT4 boxes I'd like to replace with a single samba box. One is a PDC (no BDC) that now does nothing but handle authentication for the other box which is just an NT4 member server with a big hard drive and a whole bunch of shares. There are also a few printers that are littered around the place connected to various Windows (2000 and XP) client machines and shared across the

problem creating trusts between NT4 and samba
Hi, I recently installed Samba 3.0.11 on Suse 9.2 and have managed to get a simple domain working (people can logon, share printers etc), however, I'm having trouble setting up trusts between the new samba domain and the old NT domain. I'm following this help: http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/InterdomainTr usts.html, specifically, using samba as the

Migrate tdbsam to LDAP - issues?
I currently have a pure samba domain running off a Suse 9.1 machine. When I installed this domain I wasn't really comfortable with linux or LDAP so I used a tdbsam password file, and as there are only 30 or so users it seemed the way to go in the small amount of time I had available. Well, now I want to add a BDC to the mix I find I need to move to an LDAP backend. I only have two boxes at
