Freelancer Gameserver - DirectPlay problem
Hello together.
I'm trying to run a windows application on wine the first time. I got latest
wine CVS and the Freelancer server program (it's a gui program, not console)
works so far. The problem is that the server uses DirectPlay: he isn't able
to connect to the list-server and he isn't able to set up the listening
port.

QOS and gameserver lags
Dear list,
I have experimented some time now with HTB queues, and have received
a lot of help from this list, especially from Stef. Thank you.
My currect Shaper looks like this:

Unfortunately I still experience lags of this type:
-players from the internet playing on my server feel lags
-I feel lags when I play on a different server on the

CentOS 6 Partitioning Help
...recently told that this is an old style of partitioning and is not used

questions to the list:
1) What is a good partition map/schema for a server OS where it's
primary purpose is for a LAMP server, DNS (bind), and possibly gameservers
2) CentOS docs recommend using 10GB SWAP for 8GB of RAM. 1X the amount
of physical memory + 2GB added. (Reference:

[Bug 772] New: Rate Limiting
...AULT --rsource -j DROP
I was having DDos attack from multiple IP's on probably 3 of my machines one of
which is CentOS and two are Debian. I had added rate-limiting to my rules to
protect it but I just observed its not working and server is making 1mb/s
output easily. Someone is attacking my GameServers ports using a different IP
each day and in fact multiple IPs, each IP makes 45kb/s or lesser input and my
servers make 1mb/s + Output.
All systems were on OpenVZ running 2.6.18 kernel.
On all systems iptables version was 1.4.2+. I downgraded to 1.3.5 with RPM on
CentOS machine and iptables star...

WineConsole Font Issue
Well many of you already know about the error but I'll still like to explain. I'm actually trying to get a Game Server Run on Linux without the X-server/VNC running. The server works but I don't have any console. There are some users who actually got a console without Xserver/VNC running on their game server using wineconsole so I'm trying to do the same but wineconsole would

ensure game server latency
Hi group,
first of all: I am new to this group and hope to bring in some value
later. At the moment I am such a beginner that I will probably of no
use to anyone and only be asking stupid questions...
I am running a little private linux server with kernel 2.4.21.
It serves as a gameserver, webserver and mailserver, mainly.
It also does the pppoe connect via a DSL modem to my provider and the
NAT and forwarding for my local net (3 PCs).
I would like to ensure perfect game server latency since its
interactive (Quake 3 Arena), even while people are surfing my website
or I am sending a...

QEMU interface type=ethernet
With Libvirt under modern kernels, you can't use <interface
type='ethernet'> unless QEMU is running as root.
Running qemu as root is not ideal, but I was able to track down the
issue to this linux change:

Ferret is now accepting donations
Hey folks,
Since this is the Ferret mailing list I should preface this by that
the donation of time and help by people like Jens Kraemer, Jan Prill
and all the other people who have contributed to Ferret is just as
valuable to me as any financial assistance. Thanks.
Ferret has been a labour of love but it has taken up a lot more of my
life than I ever expected. At in excess of 50,000 lines of

Does virsh actually work?
I have been beating my head against a wall attempting to get virsh to
migrate a simple VM from one host to another.
I have two systems running Ubuntu 14.04 with libvirt 1.2.2. Yes, they are
bridged. Non-shared storage. Modest guest VM that only requires 100G of
disk space; there is far more available.
In trying to accomplish even the simplest migration (per every page I can

CentOS 6 and 1.3.3
libvirt 1.3.3 seems to have introduced some kind of issue on CentOS 6
(no systemd). After upgrading, libvirt would take an incredibly long
time to get to a state where it would actually respond to a simple
'virsh list' command.
Looking at verbose output showed this repeating at exactly 30s intervals
