PATCH: Faststart Try 3
Hi Mike
Find enclosed the patch with the fastart implementation for vorbis (for
the moment).
Now is based on size in bytes and the buffers are sent all together with
pre_data.
Hope you like it. At least is the smallest one: :-)

I think it's not a icecact problem, but a source encoder's. I did
something similar, and very simple, for darkice (it's already included in
mainstream) that sends the metadata to icecast2. It works perfectly.

I don't know if you do live or prerecorded streaming, but check first your
source encoder.

Icecast2?
Hi all,
I am ricardo galli, I've juscribed just a couple of days ago. I wanted to
stay as a lurker for a longer period, but this list has almost no traffic, so
I wake up due to the silence.
The point is, is this list related to icecast2 development? I made some
changes to the server and sent a patch to Jack Moffitt, but I'm not sure he's
still mainaining the server.
If he

BUG: sending bad buf's in MP3
In format_mp3.c
tatic int format_mp3_write_buf_to_client(format_plugin_t *self,
client_t *client, unsigned char *buf, int len)
{
int ret;
if(((mp3_state *)self->_state)->metadata)
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This is always true because previously it did state->metadata = strdup("")
in format_mp3_get_plugin().
It causes annoying artifacts in xmms

I would say you could habe been using my code meanwhile :-) (it works
very nice, including flow control for "connection recovery" :-)

The server also had a remote DoS bug, I sent the patch also and it was not
included, I did not receive any answer neither, so I just stopped.

No source buffering
There appears no source buffering in Icecast 2.0. Please correct me if I'm
wrong -- my C skills are a bit rusty -- it looks like apart from a tiny 4K
buffer, there is no buffering done when relaying a source.
Is this an explicit design decision? The Internet being what it is,
unreliable and all, it seems harsh to drop a source that's even slightly
lagging, when a bit of buffering could

PATCH: memory leak

Find enclosed a one lines patch that solves a memory leak. If a client is
disconnected while the server tries to send a buffer in the queue, the
buffer is never released.

PATCH: Client queue cleanup
Hi Mike,
find enclosed the patch to move the logic of clients' queue data to a
function.
Later I'll provide you the patch to use a [configurable] queue size in
bytes instead of number of refbufs (see the footnote).
Regards,
<p>[*] I was doing some testing with MP3, aside it has some nasty bugs [**],
lame encoder sends very small packages, about 350 bytes in size,

Possibly memory leak & DoS
I am not sure, spent all the day looking the code and couldn't find the
problem, but the problem exists:
For each connection _without_ a source (a 404 error), about 100 bytes are
leaked. It's easy to test:
for i in `seq 10000 `; do echo -n -e $i'\r'; \
wget -q http://HOST:8000/any_uri -O /dev/null; done; echo
After running it, you'll probably see (with "ps axl")

You can try it (48 KB of startup buffers) at:

and
http://mcrg.uib.es:8000/high.ogg
The only think I'm still not very convinced is that clients has to
