How to optimize function parameters?
Hi, I have a dataset and I want to fit a function to it. The function is variogram model (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variogram) The variogram model is defined by three parameters and I want them to be automatically optimized for real time data. I tried to use gafit {gafit} for this, but there are some data configuration, where optimal results given by gafit() are negative, which is not correct and cannot be used for further calculating. gafit() does not enable me to set a range of possible results (at least I did not succeded in doing so), therefore I am look...

Is availble CA, GA or MAS available for R for Win?
Hi. Does anyone know whether CA(Cellular Automata), GA(Genetic Algorithm) or Multi-Agent System is available for R for Win? I've already knowna software for these areas, SWARM or startlogo. But I'd like to link R's function with these methods. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Memory leak in R v1.5.1?
Hi, I am trying to minimize a rather complex function of 5 parameters with gafit and nlm. Besides some problems with both optimization algorithms (with respect to consistantly generating similar results), I tried to run this optimization about a hundred times for yet two other parameters. Unfortunately, as the log below shows, during that batch process R starts to eat up al...

generic algorithm
Dear all, Is there any generic algorithm code for optimization implemented in R? I searched without success. Thanks, -- Zhu Wang Statistical Science Department Southern Methodist University Phone: (214)768-2453 Fax: (214)768-4035 Email: zhuw at mail.smu.edu

genetic algorithm
Hi, I am doing some research on feature selection for classfication problem using genetic algorithm in a wrapper approach. I am wondering if there is some package which is already built for this purpose. I was advised before about dprep package but I don't think it used GA there (if I am wrong, please correct me!) Thanks, Ed

Variable selection.
...lows packages: Package "Subselect" does not seem to be valid, because it handles with the correlation/covariance matrix only. Therefore, is it applicable to linear models (am I right?). Can it be used for the non-linear learning approaches? What is its area of application? Package "gafit" can optimize only continuous parameters in a function, but not the feature selection. --- I will be glad for any recommendations. Thank you very much. Sokratis Alikhanidi.

genoud nonlinear least squares optimisation
Hello, I am trying to optimise a nonlinear model to derive 'best-fit' parameter esimates using the genoud function. I have been using the genetic algorithm - gafit - in order to do this, but I am getting parameter estimates that do not always reach the global minimum. I am very keen to apply genoud to optimising this model to see if my results will improve, and also out of personal interest. However the problem I am having is, if I have a set of 'best-fit...

GA-packages
Hi, I'm looking for help on how to use *R for making use of Genetic Algorithm*to make optimal solution on the examination timetabling dataset? another point to analysis the dataset, in a manner similar to the method applied in InfoViz. Say, what is the optimal step, if: Step 1 - What is the name of the package that i can install from CRAN for me to identify GA (Please consider) - I

Rversion.h
Our current intention is to no longer include Rversion.h from R.h as from R 1.6.0 (which is months away). Package maintainers when revising code might like to check if they actually use Rversion.h, and if so include it explicitly. I did a quick grep through the CRAN packages, and in all but one case (mda) the test is for R < 1.2.0, so it may be simplest just to tidy up and add `Depends: R
