I am running several Solaris 11 file servers with samba 4.7.6. This is an AD domain but the domain controllers are Win 2008 R2 and Windows 2012 R2. All users and groups in AD have unix uidNumbers and gidNumbers assigned. On one file server, I am having problems where some users can not access files , via windows, to which they should have access as the group member. For example,

I would like to move my Samba file server (Samba 4.4.14 on Solaris 11) from a classic domain into an Active Directory domain. The active directory domain has one Win 2008 directory server / domain controller, and one Win 2012 R2 DS. E-mail, among other things, depends on a Microsoft AD backend. Just for reference, on a working Samba 4.x server in an AD domain I have the following entries Idmap config *:backend = tdb Idmap config *:range = 2000-2999 Idmap config MYDOMAIN:backend = ad Idmap config MYDOMAIN:schema_mode = rfc2307 Idmap config *:range = 1000-1999 I use active directory users and groups to explicitly set the uid and gid numbers (this was to keep everything happy

Do the "getent passwd" and "getent group" commands show the domain users? I would - at least for testing - skip the "valid users" and "write list" options . I believe that file system level security is sufficient. I think the "wins support" line means this machine is a WINS server. (the "wins server" option would tell the machine
