Firewall builder - which rpm?
...this is rather confusing. ( how do I
define a service like for port 5903? What about UDP for RTP? How do I
run the thing?)
There have been people here mentioning Firewall Builder, and that seems
be well documented, except which rpm I should grab for Centos 5.
I am looking over at http://www.fwbuilder.org/ and
http://www.fwbuilder.org/nightly_builds/build-329/ for rpms, but which
one? fedora-c5 ?
thanks.

Learning some sad things about the state of IPv6
We have kernel support for IPv6 in Centos, but not stateful firewall
support.
That requires at least the 2.6.20 kernel, which means Fedora Core 6 or
some other Linux distro.
None of the various free Linux firewalls have IPv6 support. Supposedly
FWBuilder can manage Netfilters for a Linux Kernel, but that seems to be
the extent of it.
More sad facts as I uncover them.....

xen 3.0.3: Problem with setting up iptables (fwbuilder)
hi,
on Friday i did a upgrade vom 3.0.2 to 3.0.3. I get in trouble with my
IPTables rule-set, generated with the fbuilder (2.0.9) tool.
I use as inside device xenbr0 (private-ip) and ppp0 as outside. After
upgrading the scripts from the install, everything blocked, after
starting the firewall. I saw, that xenbr0 does not have any ip, but
eth0, so i changed the inside device from xenbr0 to eth0.

IPTables GUIs
...most of
them seem to manage the firewall on the computer on which they run, or
only handle one firewall at a time. I need one that can easily manage
multiple firewalls from some sort of central location/repository, i.e.
sharing definitions of services, hosts etc.
I've googled and hunted, and FWBuilder seems reasonably good from what
I've seen so far. Are there any other packages out there? Are there
any recommendations (to look at or to avoid)?

iptables: comprehensive tutorial for CentOS?
Hello listmates,
I know this may sound stupid... but I am trying to set up a
firewall/filter/forwarder using CentOS 5.5 machine as a platform and I
am succeeding but only partially. Fro example, I am literally trying
to forward HTTP and HTTPS (TCP 80 and 443) from the public interface
to a private IP and TCP 80 works like a charm whereas TCP 443 seems to
be a no-go.
To that effect: does anyone

blocking outgoing ports with iptables
Hi,
I'm using the generic system-config-securitylevel-tui program on a
remote server to configure my firewall. So far it's been fairly decent,
allowing me to open up ports and whatnot. But I want to start blocking
a couple of outgoing ports on my machine. I want to lock it down so the
only traffic going in our out of my machine is stuff that I specify.
Is there a way to do this

Build a Firewall (Can I learn to do this...)
Hi All,
I have a home business circuit and I am gearing up to host my business
affairs in my place. I have Comcast and 13 static IP's.
I have an extra PIII 1U, 2 9gb SCSI, 1gb RAMm dual NICS.
So I am wanting to build a firewall to front end my traffic. Assign
one of my statics to it and have Comcast statically route my traffic
to this IP. Then when traffic comes have it decide if it

Centos firewall/router issue
...as been "one of those..." days. So I have a
feeling this is just a brain lapse here.
At any rate, I am setting up a firewall/router using centos 4.4
(minimal install, yummed up to date).
I have in fact enables V4 ip forwarding (by editing /etc/sysctl.conf)
and rebooted the system. I use fwbuilder for my rules, and at this
point have a next to nothing set of rules. a DHCP server is also
residing on this router.
Now the firewall can get pings back from various sources on the net by
IP and by host name. The firewall can also ping the workstations, and
the workstations can ping hte firewall (V...

Iptables front-end
Hi all,
?What iptables do you use to manage iptables? ?Or maybe not?
Simply curiosity, so I'm coming from openSUSE and in that distro there
is a YaST module front-end (YaST firewall).
TIA.

IProute2 and netfilter interactions
I am trying to build a firewall and from my reading of the list archives and
other places, I''m worried about unintended interactions between iptables and
iproute2. Here is my situation
I have an internal network on eth0 and two separate dmzs on eth1 and eth2
respectively (a wireless network and a kiosk). On the outbound side, I have a
cablemodem provider and a dsl provider. What I

Restricting access to specific IPs
Hello
I tried searching the mailing list and did some googling on the topic also,
but didn't find anything very useful. I'm looking for a way to restrict
access to my icecast2 server (which runs on a Slackware 8.1 system)
by using a list of IPs that should be allowed to connect as clients / sources.
.. now how do I do this? ;-) I remember that it was possible in the older

How to preserve iptables when running the GUI tool ?
Hello
I have set up NAT with iptables for an openvpn connection, so that the
VPN server could give VPN clients access to the entire sub-net of the
server.
The probelm is if I start system-config-securitylevel to say disable the
firewall, and then again to enable it, my iptable rules are gone !
I did run `service iptables save` before.
Is there something I can do to prevent this ? Is there a
