Updated steam, Portal 1 won't launch
...done, Steam asked to be updated and I let it. Since that update Portal has refused to launch.
Here's what happens:
The intro videos play, and then the screen stays black. There is absolutely no disk or CPU activity. It's like it just refuses to load.
System monitor says hl2.exe is at "futex_waite_queue_me"
Other source games (hl2) still work just fine.
Here's what I've tried:
deleting and re-downloading portal
updating wine
changing windows versions, winetricks
deleting config folder for portal
verifying game data
