Sharing passwords for Win95 domain logons

I was trying/hoping to use SAMBA as a unified authentication win95
logon, WITHOUT forcing profiles to be stored on the SAMBA server. I keep
on getting "Cannot view the list of users at this time. Please try
again later." Can anyone tell me if I am fundemantaly wrong here? If so,
why?
I would appreciate any help.
